Ok Guys...

Our RED package is almost complete. The last thing we need is a BEEFY head and tripod. I have narrowed it down to the following:

Oconnor 2060HD

Sachtler System Cine 75

I am leaning towards the Sachtler...but would like to hear some of your thoughts.

Thanks to all.

JEFF

Personally, I like the feel of the Sachtler heads better. But it really comes down to a personal preference. I would go to a rental house and see if they would let you try both of them in house. Or maybe some place like Abel Cine Tech which sells heads also.

Oconnor

Oconnor

Oconnor is not only the best product, their customer service is excellent. They will take care of you. Can't say enough good things about those folks.

I'd go with a 2575.

If your camera is not heavily loaded the Sachtler System Cine 75 should be avoided. I had one with a Viper & it was virtually useless.

What about the 2030S for a sub $5000 head (35% off at Film Tools) Handles up to 41lbs.

anythoughts on this one or others for sub $5000?

Thanks

Useless in what way? Can you be more specific with the details? What wasn't working?

And what are you thinking of Sachtler Cine 30 system. Is it possible to use that head with RedOne?

Thanks

Paul

A diagonal pan comes to mind as impossible with a light rig (Viper + Zoom) , my best results were 1 on pan & 0 on tilt or was it the other way round LOL.

go for the O'connor's Fuild Head,
you will never regret!

Cheers

I think the Sachtler Cine 30 is a terrific head for most RED One setups. It fits the ET dovetail plate just like the O'Connors.

Beefy = O'Connor

If you're planning on renting out your gear then go with the 2575C. It's what most customers want and expect.

If you plan to mount big zooms (Optimo 24-290) go 2575.

If it's mostly medium to small zooms or primes my vote is for 2060. The infinitely variable drag and counterbalance really lets you dial it in just right. If you plan to rent, I think OC is more attractive.

The next decision is Mitchell or 150mm ball. Again it depends on the type of shooting. For run gun, doc work, small crews I'd go 150mm. If you do alot of vehicle work or dolley work and work with full crews, the solidness of a Mitchell can't be beat.

Most importantly, OC smoothness is untouchable.

I considered the Sachtler Cine 30 but went with a OConnor 2060 HD and I'm VERY happy I did. It's a great head. I personally don't think a 2575 is necessary. The 2060 is fine. I've had my UPs and up to an Optimo 24-290 on it with no problem.

The 2060HD has a lighter setup on the drag than the original 2060. I talked to a OConnor rep at CineGear last year in LA about it and they agreed to reset the head to the original 2060 settings at no charge! They also took back my original ball and tie down set up and exchanged it for another, again, no charge, no hassle. They have fabulous, good-old-fashioned service and the heads are incredibly well built and smooth.

I do have Sachtler 2CF sticks, which I'd also recommend.

If you do decide on the 2060, make sure you order the right combination of ball and mitchell plates and tiedowns if you want to switch between ball and mitchell setups quickly.

I can help if you like.

I can attest that Mark went through every possible combination of 150 ball v. Mitchell plate for his head & sticks to make it work best for him. Some do everything Mitchell, some do everything 150, some want flexibility between both.

Miller 55

Miller 55

I can't say enough about our Miller 55 head - handles a huge variety of weight and configs, great drag and counterblanace adjustment and behavior, costs less than 5K, and has been handling very cold and very hot conditions like a champ. The ratio of head weight to performance seemed a bit better than O'Connor...my 2 cents.

cartoni C20S works great with my red fully loaded. it's beautifully made, lasts forever and the price is great.
