I am considering buying a RED camera. All my glass is s16 for my sr2. When I am shooting 2k with my RED and s16 glass will I notice a FOV difference relative to my arri sr2?

When shooting high speed 2k will I notice a difference relative to my s16 arri sr2 gate?

The literature seems to indicate that I can shoot a proper s16 gate on the RED however forums and further advice seem to indicate that I can't.

Please enlighten me!

There will be a little FOV difference. Super 16 camera aperture is 12.52 mm wide and RED 2K is 11.06 mm. So your lenses on S16mm film have about a 13% wider FOV. (Projector aperture for S16 is 11.76 mm)

I found that some S16 lenses, the Canon 8-64 for example, can deliver a higher FOV on the Red until it vignettes than with a S16 Camera. But for this you have to shoot 3K RAW and crop later to something close to 2.5K RAW.

In order not to shoot to much uneccessary "flesh" I use 3K RAW 2:1. Cropped 3K RAW to 2.5K RAW has also the advantage that a full debayer with a debayer factor of approx. 0.75 - 0.8 will deliver full 1080p which 2K RAW does not.

Taking all this in account, the Red is a heavy but nicely working digital "S16" camera which can deliver pristine full resolving 1080p HD.
