  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

just read on ASC September they used Ryans Red Epic on Only God Forgives movie..i knew he was shooting his new movie on Red but didnt know he s owner..

I have the biggest man crush on him!!! Drive is by far one of the best movies of all time

check September ASC Magazine DP says in there they used both Epic and Alexa which is Ryan's Epic.

Isn't everything Ryan Gosling in shot on the Alexa or a ARRI cam? It's good to see him owning and shooting RED though.
 
I spent last summer with ryan when we were shooting a terrence malick movie, and in fact we spent many hours talking about how great the red epic is and how he was excited about shooting his movie on the red. he is a real fan. He also showed me some of the test shots he filmed ( a metaphor), while he was preparing for his film, he is very very creative.

btw, he also told me that he just went online and ordered one just like any other person, no special treatment or pricing, just a guy with a credit card and a love of red.

Ryan is so fun to watch, even in strange oddball movies like Only God Forgives. I'm sure he already preordered a Dragon upgrade for his camera. Somehow I see him as a filmmaker, that would like increased clarity and sensitivity.

I met Gosling for a day on that same Malick shoot, and since I was shooting with my Epic he asked my opinion as well on the immemorial Epic/Alexa debate. As I was answering his questions, Rooney Mara walked up and told him, "You should just talk to David about this. He really knows his stuff". I was borderline insulted until I realized she was talking about David Fincher :)

If Paris Hilton released a film she would probably get into Cannes. There is more to film festival selection than pure meritocracy. Not to mention with sufficient clout and connections you have to work pretty hard to create a completely unmarketable product, one of the advantages of film being collaborative is that you can fill out enough positions on any film to make it decent. Hire a good DP, great actor friends, solid sound and the world's worst script would be fine. I mean... isn't that what Transformers 2 was? :D
