Can Scarlet/Epic have better quality screws please? I guess I live in a humid climate over here but still...

Hi Sander,

That looks like possible exposure to salt air, salt water, or as you mention high humidity. That stuff is deadly to camera equipment. Try searching for some CRC (Brand name) 2-26, this stuff is magic!!! CRC 2-26 displaces and seals out moisture. Prevents corrosion, cleans, lubricates, penetrates.

I worked on a production which shot for 2 1/2 months in Far North Queensland, Australia, on the Great Barrier Reef 90% on the water, the the time I was on location. A daily regime of wiping ALL the gear down with CRC 2-26 worked wonders.

Helps prevent this type of problem. Salt, high humidity etc..

I spent 3 weeks on an island and all bolts rusted to the point that there are no black spots left. The reason is that the bolts and other steel parts are made from high tensile steel, which they never should have been. It costs bit more to use stainless or titanium, but solves the problem completely. I hope this is addressed and improved upon with Scarlet and Epic.

I'll be replacing the bolts with stainless steel ones and trust RED not to use rusting ones anymore in the new cameras. Just wanted to show how it is looking now.

Wes, thanks for the tip. I'll try looking for that stuff.

Great tips, a lot of our screws are slowly getting like sanders. Hopefully find a way to get some of that crc 2-26 over here.

I remember being surprised at seeing rusty screws on the 1st 100 cameras, I think better screws were used on the new cameras, but not quite good enough.

The screws on my camera are fine (500-700#) but after a few weeks in Panama (when I first got the camera) the cradle, and red arm were rusted to hell (even though I oiled them).

To their credit RED replaced the rusted components quickly and with no issues (they were under warranty).

The rust sucks but it can be combated by regular cleaning and care of your gear. One word:

Google it if you do not know about this....
