Can anyone confirm this:
I went to B&H yesterday to get some small stuff and one of pro-video sales person told me that B&H will become R1 authorized dealer and start selling mass-produced newer R1, I couldn't believed it. But B&H guys confirmed that is true. Back me up anyone!

:red_bandana:

Somehow I kinda doubt that. RED is doing a direct sell approach because that keeps their overhead low. If they have retailers, then they don't make as much on their products. Not to mention that I have been told plenty of things by B&H that weren't true. But we'll see...

Well, this is certainly one Jim or Jerrod can easily confirm or deny very quickly.

Stephen

If true, I'm betting it's Scarlet. Jim has always said that they will be making lots of them.

But I said *if* I'm still doubtful of this rumor.

Well, before the "big change" to the modular system late last year, Jim had said that the original fixed-lens Scarlet would be available at stores such as B& H and Abel, etc.

But nobody's heard anything since the whole "modular system" announcement.

It might have made sense for the fixed Scarlet when it wasn't modular, but probably not now. While it's true there is a $750 basic kit, it remains to be seen whether it will provide the same level of functionality as the nonmodular design (same size LCD, same audio, same I/O, etc.) or whether most buyers will opt for more functional modules, in which case it won't be much simpler to buy than any other Scarlet.

Let Abel sell it.... Better customer service
Jay

Yes, I agree B&H is all about sales PERIOD! Now not all the them because I have talked to a few that were very helpful. I've learned to research the item and purchase online.

I can't see B&H carrying a full line of RED. NO WAY!

We are currently exploring many distribution options right now.....

Jim had said they were going to sell the original Scarlet at places like B&H. Even with the DSMC announcement the fixed lens Scarlet isn't that different then the original so it wouldn't surprise me if places like B&H sold those. I would be surprised if they sold the whole Scarlet line, however.

over my dead body :)

Come on Jarred! Just IMAGINE a 76 year old Wal-Mart associate trying to explain Redcode 36 vs Redcode 28 pros/cons, if that doesn't make ya smile... :-D

:w00t: HAHAHA!!! Hilarious....

You'll be able to get CF cards in the recording media aisle along side Hi8 and VHS tapes and they'll have a camera on display tied down with a security cord next to all the other palmcorders.

Sorry, I'll stop.

I've had a few camera shops express interest in becoming a reseller for Red. Scarlet seems like a good fit for these shops.
