  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RUMOR: Canon working on a RAW Recorder for 5D2?

We at reduser love rumors, it's mostly what all about here :sifone:

ehehehehe thread's.. nope.. reduser quote.. :ciappa:

Wow, i totally didn't get the April fools joke, all day I've been thinking this is going to be an amazing lens... hahaha. But really, it would be a huge hit!

lmao! i know, i read that on april 1st was like "WTF!... how much is THIS gonna cost?" :violent:

Just let go of the 24p 5D idea already. It's not going to happen. Raw recorder for the 5D..jesus football club that has to be the most ludicrous wet dream rumor yet. Canon doesn't want to even give you the correct frame rate. Why would they give you a raw recorder?

When Nikon releases a 1080/24p DSLR, maybe these rumors will fade away and people interested in moving images can get Nikon cameras instead. Canon are thick morons with an impressive track record of never doing any changes to please their customers. The sooner you get this, the sooner you understand that you have to pick another brand.

I imagine HDMI can be used for simple binary data transfer? The HDMI.org site says its bandwidth is 10.2 Gbps. That should be fast enough for some kind of compressed RAW?

Is this possible?

At 1080p30, 1080i60, or 720p60, you are looking at just under 800Mbps per channel, 8b10b coding (which throws away 20% of the channel), times three channels, giving about 240MB/sec (1.9 Gbps). There is no reason the camera would need to have a faster hdmi out, even though the spec allows for it. This is still a rather speedy port to dump out data.

does make me wonder. if Canon DID somehow figure out a way -- and if they had the political and corporate will -- to make a RAW recorder off the FF35 5D2, that would be a massive game changer. the ISO capabilities of the 5D2 alone would be scary.

but as many have pointed out, this is probably nothing but very wishful thinking.

the only company we know of that is actually making dreams like this come true, right now, is JJ and Red.
