  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rumor about new Canon 120fps video camera

I hate to say this, but as a long time Canon SLR user, if Canon can deliver an XL-H1 like camera with an APS-C sized sensor and an EF mount that can record at least 1080p/24fps with an option for RAW for under $8K, I'm sold. I have been a long time follower of Red's development and am very excited for the Scarlet, but truth be told, if I'm on a budget, $8K for a complete kit > $7K for just the brain.

Just my 2 cents (please don't ban me)

Matthew

Only the camera with lens is targeted under $8K, to record in Mpeg4 @ 56Mbps...

To record RAW, there's an IO module with price above $4K.

Just a rumor...

From the way the RAW I/O module is described you will also need a digital recorder of some kind attached too. The module is only I/O interface.

Well this kind of stuff is indeed what's best for us all; not only does it open the door for more choice, but now even RED is seemingly pushing the envelope even further to stay that much ahead.

You didnt saw any picture from that camera and you are sold???
Then good luck.

8bit Mpeg4? That's a delivery codec no matter what the bitrate, surely?

AVCHD is the H.264/MPEG4 web friendly consumer camera codec. Same as the video output of the 5DII. Not a good native editing format for sure.

There were many many people (I being one of them) sold on Scarlet based on a spec sheet on the internet, what's your point?

Competition is good for RED. And considering Jim's latest updates and statements I think these rumors are probably true. Someone on DVX mentioned that Panny is also working on an APS-C camera.

I'm almost positive Canon leaked this directly. And I think it's because they've been trying to quell the frustration over the 5D and XTi. It's their way of saying, "Please stop the bitching about our DSLR cameras, we've got a real camera coming soon. We don't hate independent filmmakers. We love them. Just wait until NAB. Please?"

That's my take on all of this.

The big question on this camera, IMO, is the IO RAW module. If that is cheap and effective, it will be a big hit. If it's pricey, bulky and a pain in the ass, less so.

yep but biggest question is real resolution - HD or 4K or what?
