I am working on a montage set to music, question, is it a big no no to do 2 slider shots in a row? I try to switch it up between dialog, slider, focus rack stuff, but just wondering. This particular sequence I really like throwing the slider shots of the details back and forth.

Is there a rule? What other rules are there that a "layman" like myself with no formal cinematography training wouldn't know

I think ultimately you just need to be creative man, for example try and edit 2 slider shots that follow the same direction and have a similar frame so it looks like it was intentional. That can look interesting. But the general rule with anything, and more importantly the human attention span, is that we get bored very quickly, so you always and frequently need something to be changing, it can be movement, subject, scene, effect, anything. Typically the more that changes the merrier just remember there is a threshold for too much changing at once, thats where rhythm comes into play. But thats a different conversation all together.

My favorite rule is, "it's only a mistake if it doesn't feel intentional."
