By now It's no secret I've been shooting with the prototype Ruby for the last few weeks but now I finally have a project cool with me posting footy.

This is a fake movie trailer for the comedy site funnyordie.com. It stars Verne Troyer (Mini Me) and commedian Gary Owen and was produced and directed by my friend Dave Thies.
These are just rough assemblies with no CC, audio sweetening or final FX so don't be too critical just enjoy.

Warning there is some cussing and raunchy material here NSFW!

I love the complete lack of spherical distortion, I'm right in Gary's face here at 15mm and it look's great!

Ahahaha. LMFAO at that clip. And the image looks perfect!!

This basically answers the question: Where will the first FF35 cine glass come from? Now we know. These types of rehousings make a lot of sense. We have been talking about this question in the "Epic" and DSMC subforums since even before the first announcement of an FF35 Epic -- back when a Red "Vista Vision" camera was only a pipe dream.

It's really awesome to see all of this coming together so well, and so quickly.

So Evan, would the EF 35mm 1.4 and 24mm 1.4 be good candidates for this type of rehousing?

Why don't they have their seat belt on? now, this is not a way to promote a lens. Isn't it?

Looks great.. what kinda handle are you rocking there in the third pic straight under the middle of the mattebox?

Keep in mind Tom that a lot of these adapted lenses still have the very short barrel rotation of a still lens -- less of an issue with a super wide-angle lens where you aren't going to be doing a lot of rack-focusing or where follow-focusing using measurements is less likely.

David,

Just want let you know that, the lens you tested on SALT Ruby 14-24mm T2.8, has 50 degree of focus rotation. The final product has been re design so that the focus travel will be approximately 95-120 degree. We will be able to get many focus marks in this focus range. Engraving marks that we should be able to engraved will be 1 foot 8 inches, 2 feet, 2 1/2 feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, 5 feet, 6 feet, 8 feet 10 feet 15 feet 25 feet and infinity, with complete accuracy with our anti back lash design.

So, David, are you getting increasingly bullish on FF35 Epic Monstro for features, TV shows, etc? I know one of your main concerns, obviously, is glass. Then there's always workflow... But still, the resulting images should really be spectacular, I think.

And of course, we will have Epic-X coming in the meantime, with a sensor larger than S35.

heh heh... :)

Good shot Evin! Funny!

Hey that lense looks GREAT !

Cheers.

Well, I don't see the need to shoot FF35 or 6K for a narrative / dramatic TV show. Music video and commercial folks may like a super shallow focus look from using the FF35 sensor with a wide-open lens. Efx people will like the larger frame for plates if they have to do any reframing. But for shooting dramatic dialogue scenes in some room, I don't see the need to use the whole FF35 sensor. However, I'd still use the 14-bit Monstro sensor for the expanded dynamic range and lower noise / greater sensitivity, just cropped to S35.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the FF sensor is released. Didn't Christopher Nolan want to shoot The Dark Knight entirely in IMAX but decided not too because of noise/$$$ ?

It's a spidergrip and it's a two handle design, it's just a perspective illusion in that photo.

Interesting that you don't use the EVF for handheld...

Bad back, I need to eliminate as much weight as possible. I use it sometimes when it's just a quick shot. But I'f it's a whole scene I pull it off and just rock the 7".

i know it's the wrong thread, but one quick question @ evin:

are you happy with your handheld setup we see in the pictures you posted here?

best wishes,
martin

It's the best I've come up with, I use this weight belt from filmtools and the custom shoulder pad you've seen in previous threads. Also the Spidergrips and a Red quick plate mounted on an Element Technica 15mm topside combo in a vertical orientation. It balances about as well as any hand held rig with the R1 can. I did a reality sty;e pilot tht was mostly handheld and monopod where I used the Longvalley lightweight support and lost the Red/Arri base, but that's about it.

Lol at thinking that threads will ever stay on topic here. :smilielol5:
