Well if the rumours are true then congrats Ruairi, you deserve it! "The Silent City" is a great little short, I look forward to seeing what you can do with one of the great anime movies and its similar post-apocalyptic feel.

And since this is all speculation anyway until Ruairi confirms or denies it, my money is on Cillian Murphy being one of the cast members... :wink: You read it here first!

"Akira" filmed on Red would seem a perfect match to me!

I kinda hope it's for real. I always like Akira, but I think some of the story elements will need some serious updating or alteration for today's market. I'm curious to see how it works out (if it does).

But for bringing a Japanese Anime feature into the live-action realm, Akira is a good choice, IMO. If I ever get the opportunity to do such a thing (just fantasizing here), I'd want to do Nausicaa: The Wind Rider, but that's just me.

A 8-hour HBO miniseries live-action adaptation of Nausicaä of the Valey of Winds, based on the manga is my dream project.

I spent some time on his web site last month and was blown away.

He's funny, talented and confident. He would be like Greg "House" directing a movie. You just know in the end, he's going to get it right.
