Hello World!
I'm tying to sync a custom external device to frame numbers. (Shutter sync is not necessary) I've done this in the past with the timecode output on the RED One. I'm now trying to do the same with a Scarlet. The Scarlet does not have a built-in timecode output (without PRO I/O module). It does however have timecode input so I could get a 3rd party timecode generator and parse its signal in parallel with the camera. But that's lame. Less lame would be to generate my own but I don't trust timing on my custom device.
Then I saw the "CTRL" connector.
The documentation says:
Other parts of the documentation have options to enable different types of serial outputs.
I was not able to get any data out trying all the different output/sync/control mode.
However, I was able to get some data out of the RS232 Tx pin when I opened one of the device info menus. I forget which one exactly but upon opening the submenu it spit out a burst of serial data which decoded to data similar to what was printed on screen. (IIRC: Hardware version, Firmware version, S/N, etc)
Does anyone have any info on getting the serial metadata output to work? I'm guessing it's waiting for a handshake or it's a polling protocol but I've found no documentation about it nor documentation on one of the available protocols.
Other posts I've seen relating to this had no real info or were quite old.

CTRL (RS232 Control)
A 4-pin LEMO connector supports RS232 remote control for 3D camera communication, and third party metadata ingest applications.
