Hi everyone,

I plan on buying the Epic-S when released and am now starting to buy media and accessories in anticipation of the release. I would love to buy one of the Battle Tested RR cards, but before doing so I wanted to post my system specs and get some feedback on if they were adequate, or if anyone had experienced any issues on a similar system with a RR. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

MacPro - 2.8 Dual QuadCore Intel Xeon
OS 10.5.7
6 GB Ram
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Sounds decent enough for a RR station :)
Maybe more RAM and eventually upgrade display?

Thanks Eric.
Yeah, I realize that I need to add more RAM. My main concern is my graphics card. I hope to hear that someone has the same card and is working without issues!

Whats your res/display type? I can see having probs if your forcing dual 30's at 2560x1600. But if its a single screen, doubt it.
Hope someone chimes in with their experience :)

Probably at least an eSata PCIe card to avoid bandwidth-related transcoding bottlenecks...that and/or internal RAID

Some folks here are on the fence about adding another card. The Apple 12 core I have has 2 x 16 and my Quadro 4000 and RR is on that.
Now if I wanted to get into CC with Davinci then Id have to remove something to add the original AT 5870 for GUI then Quadro 4000 for CUDA. uggh a lot to ponder :P

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm buying up accessories too. I've got the RED STATION on it's way. Did you pull the trigger on SSDs or are you waiting for the package details? Any other accessories that you have gotten?

What year is your Mac Pro? I'm going to have to buy one and that will eat into the overall budget significantly I think.

Hi Ryan,

So far I have the Red Station Base and SSD. I have 2 64G SSD cards ordered, but they are currently backordered. I'm a little hesitant on what else to buy (except the RR) because I don't know if the Epic-S will have a "package". I believe that it's been said that the camera will come with the SSD Module, but I'm not sure about the monitor, side grip, redmote, etc....

My MacPro was purchased in 2008.

I do have an eSata card installed. That's what I run my external harddrives on.

For displays, I have two HP L1925 monitors on my desktop, but I just use those to edit, not to CC. I have a Sony LMD-2030W for reference/CC. It has an HD-SDI input (I'm currently using component). I can use HD-SDI from the Rocket card to my Sony monitor for color correction, correct?

Sounds great :) Ive been trying to do it all in one set-up and so far Im good up to REDCineX and Storm. I dont have a RAID yet, I have an older Apple RAID card and hoping itll work with the newer 12core. If not Ill do the eSATA route :)

I have the 1.8" on order. I'm hesitant on the base station until I figure out if I will be ordering a bunch of SSDs or not. I'm trying to do it all for 20K but it looks like it's gonna be tight, especially with the Rocket. I would also like to know about the monitor. I know they will be in very high demand in the coming months.

I have to plan the next year around this whatever pricing structure they choose so I hope something concrete comes out soon. In the meantime though, at least it's minimizing a huge hit at one time to buy some of this stuff now.

Mac Pro 1, 1

Mac Pro 1, 1

We just received our BT RRC.
What is the oldest Mac Pro possible that I can install this RRC in?
I have an old Mac Pro 1, 1 - 3GHz, tons of RAM plus Nvidia FX4500.
I can put it into something newer but would like to try this first.

Im just worried ill blow something up of course :)
