  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RPPs

I ordered my set in metric, do you have any idea when those will be shipped. my camera nr is 4539. thanks

Got my metric primes middle of September. I could not be any more happy with them.

Jochen (RED #0296)

EDIT: I think those lenses f...ed up my english....

If anyone has any questions related to where they are in the queue or the process of fulfillment, I would be happy to help you out. Please email me at brianb-at-red-dot-com and i will get back to you quickly.

Good to see some RPP images leak out, would like to see 4k frame grabs though, so that we can actually see how they perform.
I'm mostly used to see superspeeds on my R1, so i'm very curious to see how much additional image detail can be achieved using different lenses.
Did shoot something with Master primes but did not have a chance to get the footage at our studio for better evaluation (it was a rental) ... right now i'm trying to do some stereo photogrammetry vfx work with my R1 so i need as much as detail as possible ... for these kind of projects resolution is never enough ...

The lenses are sharper than the camera, the sensors' filter, and resolution of the camera don't allow us to see huge differences in line detail, or resolution between lenses. Where the RPP shine for me is in contrast, mechanics, speed, lack of breathing, flair, or lack there of, and on the projector. I am sure they will really shine over other lenses when the get on EpicX and that big sensor.

You can't until all the set orders are delivered, then they will be available a la carte. Or so I am told.

So you can get them around 2012 just before the world ends.

Hey man, joke or not, that's not cool. Quality glass takes time... I for one, don't want them rushed. RED has had higher than expected demand
especially International METRIC glass... they will catch up quickly, much more so than first RED ONE, which didnt take as long as you joked about here. :)

And the RPPs (metric in my case) are worth waiting for!! They are an amazing asset at a GREAT price, I have had my set almost two months, and I look forward to using them every time, I have two jobs this coming week using them, I just can´t wait!

Sand.

Each and every DP I've shown mine to have been very impressed with the image quality.

More like sand from Alpha Centauri considering the optical properties of the lenses. I was the second one to see them on the lens projector and first one (with Jarred) to shoot some real tests. several months later I still stand by my statement that they are better the ARRI's. Easily better then the Ultra Primes and Master Primes have "only" the speed going for them. However, when opened at 1.3, the MP's are lot softer and display both focus and brightness vignetting. Once stopped to the 1.8 speed of the RPP's - the RPP's are better... So unless You absolutely need that speed, RPP's win all the time in my books...

I have a set here in Italy and when the rental houses say to me they have Ultra Primes I say RPP are better.
