Over the past 6 months I've spent over $12,000 on red stuff -- a couple of lenses, CF module, CF card reader, base production pack, etc. -- only to realize I really can't afford a red one at this time. But check it out -- I just purchased a Panasonic AG AF100, and yeah, it's not a red one, but I was able to use an adapter so that it has a PL mount...and now my 2 RPPs won't go to waste. Pretty sweet...

Now I'm just looking for an affordable mattebox. I've waited a few months for the red MB and decided I can't wait any longer. Besides, I want it to attach to my 15mm rods. Any suggestions?

For the PL adapter I used a Solid Camera AF-100 adapter. It's actually sold in 3 separate pieces, which is kind of annoying. The adapter itself was $750, but since the Red Pro Primes are so heavy, it's absolutely necessary to have the support of the Solid Baseplate ($250) and the Solid Bracket ($194 -- the bracket holds the 15mm rods in place).

I have a battle tested 18mm lens and a 100mm RPP, and in my opinion, they look amazing compared to the alternative: the camera came with a "complementary" Panasonic Lumix 14-140mm zoom lens when I bought it from bhphotovideo. The zoom, while convenient, can't deliver the sharpness of the RPPs, which are truly amazing if you ask me.

Cool looking rig! I am currently shooting a doc for Discovery on AF-100s with KiPro Minis. I got Arri Standard adapters and slapped my old Kinoptik 35mm primes on there for interviews. I am really digging this old glass on these new cameras. Now, I just got a nice BNCR adapter, so I can use my newly acquired Canon K35s. The adapters only cost me a few hundred bucks each and really brought this little camera to life. I'd love to see the results of the RPP on the AF-100. Should be a killer combo! Also, not a fan of the Lumix 14-140mm.

I'm going to be shooting a feature starting in about a month, but I'll post some test footage soon.

I've used RPP on Phantom, F3, AF100, FS100, 7D.

Happy, they get the job done. They are heavy, but I don't shoot too much HH, so it's really not a big deal. I just flew to a job in Tahoe and carried two RPP and a FS100 in two lowpro bags.

There are much better tests and opinions on the forum vs what I can offer... However, I have not prepped a job where we debate UP vs RPP. If the budget is there yes UP, for the lighter weight and better marks.

Awesome pictures, David. Thanks for sharing. I especially like those last two you've included.
