What is your experience shooting with the Red Pro Primes? Any feedback on them? Does anyone have footage to post? I'm considering purchasing a set but want to know how they compare to other prime lenses.

Thanks.

I don't have much shooting experience, but I can tell you from a technical standpoint, they are a steal. I gauge the quality right around Cooke S-4 or Zeiss Ultra Prime, at a fraction of the cost. RPP even better in fact with their complete field illumination which the S4 and UPs can sometimes lack. Their T-stop readings are accurate and the focus marks are decent. Color temp is pretty well matched from lens to lens, not set to set (so you don't have to worry about swapping a lens here or there.) and fairly temp neutral. Mechanics are solid and well dampened. Ergonomics are fine, maybe a bit large, but no larger than other pro cine lenses.
Overall great lenses.

I have to agree with Matt. I have a set and they have been the best purchase I have made to improve image quality on the Red. They smoke my older zeiss prime set. The footage looks so good it makes me smile every time I see a shot.
Get a set you will be happy you did.

Finally took my new RPPs out for a test drive yesterday - they are AMAZING. We didn't get too scientific with the tests, but just shooting a bunch of stuff casually, they exhibited all the characteristics of truly world class lenses. I'll have footage to post next week when my friend - http://WWW.VONSWANK.COM/ - is done grading and editing together the stuff we shot.

Get my RPP set today

Get my RPP set today

I get all the set + 300 mm today.
First impression : "why are they so heavy ?" I only tried a nikon set through now, and I wanted to further and to use a FF, so I jump with the RPP because I am now sure I will stay with the Red for a long time.
I made a very, very quick and dirty test. (just put the RPP and shoot anywhere, anybody, without light or anything) and played with Redcine X and Flut. And.... WHAOOOO !!!!!!!
I don't have the MX upgrade yet and I can't believe what I saw...
Yes, the focus is still a bit hard but the screen seems much better than with the nikon, and the result is stunning. You can shoot whatsoever, if it is not out of focus, it is good !

I don't know the proportionate share that goes to Redcine X and the one with the RPP but it is really new for me.

I will do ASAP more test with my Nikon 85 mm 1,4 versus Red 85 1,8 RPP, but I am quiet sure of the winner...

It is a very good day for me. Thank's to the Red !

Love mine. Just finished the first job. Pretty sharp WFO. Stop down Very sharp!
"Fast enough" at T1.8 without the inherent issues of producing T1.3 glass.
read: CA, softness etc...
This keeps the price relative inexpensive too.

I've paired them with a set of older matching(ish) Canon Teles for long work.
200 1.8
300 2.8
400 2.8 (huge!)
I have to test them against for colour matching.

Just tried them once.

Have RPP hunger.

They are heavy, though. MasterPrimes heavy.
And they are not masterprimes.
But veeeeery cool.
