I found my favorite case set up. These Pelican 1500 cases with the tear-out foams are pretty cool.

I used to use the Pelican cases exclusively, now I have switched to the Storm, mostly because of the much better latch design and the dividers.

I must say that I did also used extensively the Pick n' pluck foam inserts, but then stopped completely using them as they produce very fine particles which enter the lens elements and are a B%#@! to clean, so no more Pick n' pluck foam for any electronics, especially lenses and Cameras.

But I believe that there is a special spray which you can apply once you have cut the foam out to your liking, the spray is to prevent the foam pieces to come apart, but it should also prevent any particles from been released, this second part not sure at all.

You are right Ketch. The spray is amazing and I have only found it at Studio Depot. I believe it was $14 a can and I used about 80% of a can on a Pelican 1500 (I sprayed it on pretty heavy). The spray makes all the foam one solid piece that is waterproof and rubberized. It also makes the foam a big stronger so it can support heavier items.

iiiinteresting.... May have to redo my Pelican 1620 and give it a good dose of that special spray at the end.

I wish I could get the Pelican anti-static foam (pink) as pick n pluck.

Link to the spray?

I'm planning on having a custom case made for my RPPs when I get them. I've never really liked the big, bulky and almost impossible to carry - cases, so I'm contemplating having a long one done where the RPPs will be sitting in one row instead - with room for FF marking rings. I'll post pictures then.

I guess this forum is such a daily part of our lives, we forget how KICK ASS it is.

Thanks a ton Ketch, and everyone else who posted info on this. I get too excited when I learn cool new things :)

BTW, these primes are pretty heavy. I can't see myself carrying more than 2-3 lenses per case.

That one case with all 6 lenses inside must weigh at least 60 lbs.

Most welcome Joseph, this is the spirit of this community, to share and learn form each other!

And yes they are heavy, and even so I'm a very visual kinda of guy, even inside the case :), if that makes sense, I like to open the gear cases and look at what is inside, everything been in perfect order, and looking as if they were ready to be taken a picture of, but in some cases, as it is so for the RPP, I would not ever put them all in one case, even if it was a willed case, soon or later you will have to lift it to put it in a vehicle and that will not fill good to your back, not good at all!

Especially, when considering that some of us, will no doubt have the entire RPP set of Primes plus the Zooms, such as the 18-85, so no matter what will be just fiscally impossible and completely unreasonable to have all the lenses in one case, so better have them in separate cases and make them much more portable from the very beginning, just make sure to mark clearly each of the cases with their content, so not to have the need to open each case to figure out what is inside.

Enjoy your RPP's.

1520 seems OK.

1520 seems OK.

Ketch, thanks. I picked up a Pelican 1520 in the meantime and managed to get 4 primes in it.
I'm so paranoid of tiny particles now. I'll probably put each lens in it's own bag.

But four seems to be heavy too. 2 or 3 at the max seems to be manageable. I'm not shipping
these or throwing them around, so the little play it has is OK since it's just me.

The problem with a case design like this is that one lens is leaning on another when the case is picked up by the handle. Pressure on the various rings can increase wear and cause slippage. I like lenses supported by sturdy foam.

Hi Mitch,
How about Abel proposing it's own solution.
I just bought the Panasonic 1760 with stand, sunhood and case and it's all fitting very nicely, you may consider to propose more solutions like this.

We can make a case for someone as soon as they ask for a case. I'm not going to do the work "on spec" and then hope someone buys it. We have a lot of other work to do.

The 17" monitor case evolved from the needs of our rental department and it has been selling very well for years. Same goes for our RED One case. Whenever we design something for rental we also make it available for sale, but otherwise it it by customer request.

Ketch,

Can you tell me about the LED lights pictured... what are they??? What is your application with them.

Thanks,
Prio

I've been looking everywhere for the dimensions of the RPPs...I remember seeing it somewhere on Reduser. Anyone know where I can find them?

I'm actually asking so I can see whether they'll fit inside cases like this:

For risky transport I'll be using an ATA case, but sometimes I want to put things in a photo backpack to be able to move about...

I don´t use the pick and pluck any more; I buy the Pelican cases empty, without foam (you can do this, al least with the bigger models, and it´s naturally cheaper) and have the foam custom made by a custom case maker; it´s not much more expensive and the results are far better, last much more and look much better too.
