I'm looking for a place that retrofits still lenses with the proper hardware to make them work better with RED. I read good things about rplens.com but have tried to email and call. Email is not returned and I get a "voice mailbox full" error message when calling. Does anybody know if they are still around or of another company that offers a similar service?
Thanks!

Hang on, they do reply. I had contact with them this past week via email, sometimes they take a couple of days to reply!

I just spoke with Peter at RP Lens yesterday however I called today and got the same message. I think it's just a phone issue, I emailed him to let him know.

Good to know!!!! Now I know they are high quality gears!

Call Peter, I got a set of lenses from him fitted out and could not be happier. He is great to work with, drop him a line via email if he does not answer phone...he is a working DP so maybe on shoot when you tried to reach him.
cheers.

Peter is a great guy, I bought a couple of sets from him and he was very accurate on delivery times and a very honest guy.
His quality of work is amazing. By next week I should have a blowup to 35mm with a lot of shots with his lenses next to Mater Primes, Ultra Primes and Optimos.
I really want to know how the Nikkors and the Zeiss ZF handle on a blowup to 35mm against the bigger lenses :weight_lift:

Peter is a great guy. Very personable. He seems to be in and out of the shop. But he is available, just have to keep trying.

Post any stills if you can please!!!!

Actually, RPLens sends his lenses for gears and adaptors to us.
As many of you know, I never use this forum for solicitation..
But we spoke with Peter and he said that he wouldn't mind if customers contacted us directly. That way we both save on shipping and whatnot.
If you're looking for gears or 80mm adaptors for your Canon or Nikon lenses, check out the details here:Duclos Lenses - Gears/Rings
If you have any questions, you can ask me here or email me.

Has this always been the case or just recently? I thought Peter did the mods himself?

Anyone else used this mods? would you Post some frame to us?
I'm a bit curious,,,

Will Peter still be tracking down the lenses and testing them or will that fall into your hands as well Matthew?

By the way, that ENG lens that got sent your way from Mass, the guy was very happy with the service he got from you guys, very happy.

Steve,
Yes, WE ARE providing Prime Sets. Phones were out briefly due to a snafu in changing phone companies. (Sorry to all)
RP Lens Co. for the most part , is in the business of providing quality
prime sets acquired from the still world, i.e. Nikon, Canon, Zeiss ZF,etc. Over the past few years we have used several suppliers, Duclos Lenses being one of them, they do very nice work with attachments and of course Paul has a great reputation for working with all the motion picture lens brands. When we have customers calling in - only wanting their own lenses geared, I have referred them to Paul, especially if they are on the west coast.
Building prime sets is more than just gearing, finding and evaluating these lenses is a painstaking and time consuming process.
We have a lens tech here who has worked with SLR Lenses for more than 30 years. We sometimes strip them down to clean and re-dampen focus barrels,
blow out dust, replace front elements, etc. We pride ourselves in providing only Pristine glass and a quality upgrade to work in the professional digital cinema world.
And yes, I'm a working DP (www.petersensor.com) and every other moment,
I'm shopping glass and building prime sets.
Recent successes have been - an extremely pleased client in (Boston Camera) with a 6 lens Nikkor Hi-Speed set. and a 3 prime set package to a European rental house.
Thanks so much to all the customers who commented above, I really appreciate it - that's what makes it all worth it.
Thanks, Peter at RP Lens Co.

That's what I thought. It was getting a bit confusing there for amoment. As I have stated here and many places, I have been very happy with my prime lens set that Peter delivered. I can't state enough how important it is to use good glass. I got a dog of a lens off Ebay (the guy was nice enought to take it back, so not intentional), so you really have to be careful about the used lens market.

I think it's great we have people like Peter and the guys at Duclos who have taken a keen interest in supplying and servicing SLR glass for this segment of the filmmaking population.

I would highly recommend both of these companies.
