Hi Michael - I have a Edmund optics IR cut filter but one thing I notice is that it seems very "cold" (as in rather like a light 80a) and this seems difficult to colour balance your way out of (even at 10000K the chip stills seems very cold). Are the new filters similar? Thx
Thanks, Michael
Yesterday I was given an ETA of sometime in June in an email from someone at Rosco.
Is two weeks a very possible, less conservative estimate?
I have a shoot starting 12 May in China.
I can get the old version now.
I don't want to have to buy twice... Michael Rosco told me the improvements to the IR wavelength cut were minor. Do you agree based on your testing?
That's the difference between an IR filter that absorbs the light and one that reflects it (hot mirror). The big limitation to a hot mirror is that it really should be out in front, the very first thing the light hits before any other filter or the lens. An absorbtion filter can go anywhere, even behind the lens.
so should we use this filter as the very 1st filter?
I'm pretty sure Matt Uhry told me at NAB that he tested the mirrored ND panchro IR's and they did not make much of a difference. The dedicated hot mirror that panchro is coming out with worked great though.
Is this just an IR filter or is it a combo ND as well?
