Working on my first FCPX project using Red footage and I messed the workflow all up, now I'm trying to fix my mistake.

I opened the R3D's in FCPX first without creating RDX files in Redcine & of course now that my edit is done I'd like to run back to Redcine to do a simple grade, play with the sharpening & a few things FCPX doesn't let you touch then have these update in FCPX so I can do some secondaries.

I know I screwed up, I now know the proper way to do this going forward, but what I can't seem to find is how to fix it. Can you delete the RDX files created by FCPX and then create new ones with Redcine or do I somehow take the media offline then bring it back after Redcine... I mean... how do I fix my rookie mistake?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

You don't need to change anything in FCP or your event library.

When you import a R3D file into a FCP X event it will do one of two things.
1. If an RMD file exists from Red cine or some other app, then FCP X will make an alias (symbolic link) to the Original RMD file in the event folder.
2. If no RMD file exists, FCP X will make its own RMD file in the event folder.

#1 allows you to easily just open back up Red Cine and point your file browser to the original footage and make edits...

#2 Simply requires you to point Red CIne to the Media aliases (symbolic links) in the FCP X Event folder. So just point red Cine's file browser to the FCP event folder and grade away.

If you want to make things quicker, send an XML file out of FCP X and import it into red cine, this will give you a sequence with just the clips you've used - there is a way to tell redcine where to look for the original R3ds (point it to the fcp event folder).

Thanks for the response Matthew, hopefully this will help others who have made the same mistake.
