Hi Guys,

Stuck choosing between a Movi Pro & Ronin2 seem to be the hardest decision iv got left to make with regard to my shoot package ? any feedback or experiences would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Steven

The Movi batteries are the worst batteries in existence. Biggest problem with them IMO. With a fully rigged camera, I only get maybe 45 mins from a set of batteries, where the R2 can get upwards of 2 hours per set of batteries. Ignite makes an adapter plate....for over $700 :( to use R2 batteries. Might be the route I will go.
With that said. The R2 is HEAVY!!!! Borderline impossible to do any realistic shoot without a ready rig or support system. If you are attending NAB, I would wait and order your chosen gimbal from one of the vendors at the show. I got a killer deal from Adorama for my Movipro at NAB last year. $5500 brand new vs. $6500 retail.

I make a living as a gimbal operator, and I've used Movi's and Ronin's interchangeably at client's preference for years. The 3 or so times I've had a serious problem with a gimbal on set I've ALWAYS been able to get a Freefly tech on the phone within 5 minutes, and I've never failed to get it up and running after their help. I've had a Ronin break, and the soonest I could get an estimate on the problem would be 6 weeks (if you're lucky...) So in my opinion, while they do the same thing, if you want the gear to work go with the company that works for you.

Just to be clear, DJI does have a concierge option... for $4,700 https://store.dji.com/guides/dji-circle/
Disgraceful.

Movi Pro all the way.
Was for years on Ronin 1, had few of them, all braking down sooner or later, constant drift and long wait for support,... Decided to go Freefly way and never looked back. Works like a charm, you get Mimic in the package as well and its awesome. And Movi is light. You do get 45min from 2 batteries if you are running Red, remote FF, video link... off of it.
Never tried Ronin 2 for that long as I couldnt hold it up for more then 20sec :P but i doubt you get 2 hours out of it but the batteries look massive.
I have 3 sets of batteries for MoviPro and I never run out of juice.

I opted for the Movi Pro. Lots of factors: the lower weight, the FIZ integration (I already owned a Heden motor), and the Mimic were some of the biggest ones. Like Uros, I have 6 batteries and I grabbed an extra charger so I can have three charging at a time. I've had multiple shoot days with the RED staying on the Movi Pro all day (powered by the Movi).

I will give it to the Ronin 2 that the batteries are double the capacity and have the built-in self-heating. Maybe down the road I'll look into the Ignite Digi adapters (i have their tilt offsets and they are awesome) but for the time being I can get away with doing a few more battery swaps. With a good AC keeping ahead of it, shouldn't be a big hassle.

but i doubt you get 2 hours out of it but the batteries look massive.

I have worked multiple times with an R2 op and he consistently gets 2+ hours from 1 set of batteries.
so doubt no more Uros :)
and if you pick up the DJI TB55 batteries...you will get even more run time.

ignite digi has gold mount battery options too which is great, pair this with 1 movi pro battery and you can hot swap the Anton battery, and you can also plug into vclx for car mount

ignite digi tilt offsets make it possible to easily fly most any lens on movi pro

I wish it had the locking mechanisms that the ronin has

the light weight of the movi makes it possible to do some take without support which is a lot of times the best in my opinion

software of movi is really really good

I don't have any of these two but I would choose Movi Pro (that's the gimbal I want) mainly because of the weight. I want it to be light as posiible. And because of their Freefly ecosystem (Controller, Alta, Mimic and Tero). But that's just me :)

I had the same issue, honestly the weight is huge factor for me since I do a lot of shots by myself, and I wouldn’t be able to do them on the robin 2 without the rig which that’s a huge disadvantage, but if you looking to have some Cooke s7 with a red go for it the MōVI can’t handle it.

I like a lot my movi but I wish it could handle a bit more weight to be honest without having to add counter weights

I didn't know that but Ronin 2's weight is 5.5kg??? That's HEAVY! Movi Pro weight is 2.7kg. That means that Ronin 2 weighs like Movi Pro with RED Scarlet-W with CP.3 and I/O expander on it!

I think I heard they don’t make it or it’s hesvily backordered or something. I LOVE mine, use it every single movi shoot.

Aside from the weight, the Ronin 2 is far and away superior to the Movi Pro. Extremely well thought-out design, easier and faster to balance, stronger motors, better menu system and just more reliable.
