Hi all,

I'm trying to make a RED DSMC2 Weapon 6K MG to balance in a Ronin S2 but the V-mount battery (Paglink mounted in the V/Lock I/O expander) hits the Ronin's back motor.

To solve this I was thinking in two possible routes:

1 - Removing the battery to a belt clip. But then I'm afraid the power cable could be a problem also by unbalancing the setup. Also, the Lemo power connector to the camera (and its cable) may not clear the back Ronin motor. Maybe a 90 degree Lemo connector? Do you know of any V-mount belt clip with a 90 degree Lemo 6-pin connector? Do you know if this is a good solution?

2 - Using the replacement base plate for the RS2 with a V-mount plate (https://tilta.com/shop/battery-plate...ugh-plate-kit/). Anyone knows if this plate support the wattage required by a DSMC2 camera? Also, it has P-Tap and 2-pin Lemo outputs, but the power input of the camera is a Lemo 6-pin connector. So which cable/connectors should I use between the plate and the camera that has a 90 degrees Lemo 6-pin connector?

Note - The problem exist when using lens like Sigma Art 18-35mm f1.8 or Sigma Art 14-24mm f2.8, since the camera needs to be moved back for balance. If I use a small or very lighweight lens there is no problem.

Thanks!

Have you tried using the belt clip, but mounting it to the side or under the camera so it moves with the camera? I don't have an S2 so I have no idea if this will work. I have not seen a belt clip with a right angle connector.

For the base plate option, something like this should work (although I'm sure you can find cheaper if you look around): https://woodencamera.com/products/d-tap-to-red-dsmc1-dsmc2-braided-flex-cable

I have this one - it's too stiff. I'm using it through a D-Tap splitter instead (it has a softer cable - thus not creating any issues for the gimbal).

Here's how I've been doing it. Works well with my 16-35, 11-20, 18-35, 50, and I can make the 24-70 work. I have a $40 cable from Alvin cables which is easy to extend since it's just dtap and I wear the battery in a small bag and plug right into the battery's dtap. I even run a tx and wireless focus on it if needed.

I used to fly it reversed on a ronin-s but that restricted tilt range and speed so the rs2 allows more freedom. I always manually increase my stiffness 5-10% since I find with heavy payloads you can get some wobble otherwise.

Thanks for the photos. Nice setup!

The right-angle power cable you mentioned from Alvin cables is a Lemo 1B 6-pin?

I've found only this extension https://www.alvinscables.com/sale-1...e-6-pin-right-angle-female-to-6-pin-male.html and although they didn't say if the size is 1B or not, then I'll need another cable from Lemo to D-Tap.

This is the one I use, at least it appears to be identical. I bought mine 3 yrs ago so the listing is no longer available but this seems to be the new listing for the same item:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/203040755522

Its very easy to extend the dtap from there if needed and power the camera with any battery that has an unregulated d-tap output.

It's too bad they don't make one that reverses the right angle connector, but I ended up just gaff-taping a 180deg curve in the cable and it just clears all the arms as needed even if it doesn't look like the most elegant solution.

The one you linked looks like it could also work and keep the locking connection.
I was a little concerned about extending dtap without locking connectors but it hasn't been an issue after doing it for a few years. I would worry about having a heavy lemo coupling dangling down though, where the light weight of the plastic d-taps doesn't seem much of an issue.

Noah,

Thanks for you feedback.

Since this looks like the only right-angle 1B Lemo 6-pin available, it looks like the only option.

My Pagling V-Mount batteries don't have any D-Tap output (that don't have any kind of external output) so I must also find a compatible V-Mount plate that has a D-Tap output.
