Jim, I'm more of the critical follower than the typical fanboy but I must acknowledge I'm almost stunned by your listening to the customers and hard working team.

Red's company slogan should be "It's the journey not the destination.":red_bandana:Jim, I'm more of the critical follower than the typical fanboy but I must acknowledge I'm almost stunned by your listening to the customers and hard working team.
We have pointed this out to every DP (and VFX god) that was interested in using RED on features. So far, no one has seen it as a problem.

My bet is that by the time you get the shot moving fast enough to produce shutter smear, the motion has already made it pretty difficult for an audience to critique the image / notice if your plate doesn't match up 100%.
While I haven't seen skew in any of my shoots I have been more frustrated with the split screen artifcating by bright flashes of light etc...Is there any work around for that currently, or is that just an inherent problem we will learn to deal with due to CMOS technology?
I posted on this topic several months ago (use the search). We use a rapid reset sensor system which is much faster than a typical CMOS rolling shutter. It is a bit slower than film so it is easier (not much) to induce skew with RED than with film. But it is MUCH better than a standard rolling shutter.

But Jim Arthurs, until you've actually run a test match-move from Red footage, why assume the worst.
Ok, gotta get back to shooting hot models, this shit takes all day.

Well. . . I WAS going to be shooting some footage on my upcoming feature to a strobe light as the sole illumination. I guess I won't be doing that, will I?
