Hi.

I've been trying to find some new info on what the read/reset times for the scarlet will be, does anyone know if rolling shutter will be much of an issue as I'd like to do a lot of tracking work and having to use the foundry's rolling shutter plugin all the time seems like a a bit of a pain.

Also does anyone know what the low light capabilities will be like?

Many thanks in advance

Pete B

it is not currently much of a problem on red one's, even less so for any of the new cameras.

I watched again District 9 on blu-ray and didn't found any (really major) rolling shutter issues. I admit there could be, just that even on a shaky film like DIstrict 9, it's still very very difficult to tell.

The camera is able to shoot 120 fps, which means the read-reset will by definition have to be equal or better than 1/120 sec. Possibly even faster.

So, there still is some rolling shutter artifacts, but very likely much, much less than on i.e. DSLR's, or even Red One.

I don't think anyone outside Red knows, but here's my guess: Likely slightly below Red One with MX, due to smaller photosites, maybe a stop or so. That should make it pretty well usable in the ISO 1000-2000 range.

Brilliant, thanks for the info guys.

Hahaha yea. I've been stabilizing some footage shot with a 5D, and the slightest little bump skews the frame drastically. I hate those damn things...

Run it through RollingShutter by the Foundry for After Effects or Nuke.

I'm pretty sure Read/Reset is about twice as quick as R1... don't quote me, not much need to worry about rolling shutter except in places where you need a gyroscopic rig (i.e. helicopter), in which case, that will take care of it.

Yeah I'm probably not going to be using it much on cars or other vehicles...not yet anyway. but fast pans are something I find I'm always using.

Isn't the Mysterium-X chip supposed to be able to read-reset in 5 ms? Wasn't the old Mysterium about 9 ms?
