Just want to know if there's a way to reduce or rid of the Rolling shutter effect that causes the strobe lights to only fill a portion of the frame when triggered.

Anyone successfully shot with strobes with a specific settings on the camera or the strobe sync?

Here's how it looks like from my last film. I really hate it and I don't know how to fix it in post.

Just finished a feature that takes place inside an ATM vestibule where we had a ton of strobe effects. Shot on MX, - 4 cameras.

In prep, we tested Atomic 3000 strobes. These are strobes built by martin that are DMX controlled. Experimented with Frequency, Duration, and intensity, and we were able to "dial" in bursts that hit on full frames. The strobes on occasion would drift and there would be anomalies , but for the most part all the "flash" was on full frames. I was 95% satisfied.

Since we built the set, We were able to build Atomic 3000 heads into the ATM set with fire alarm strobe facades. So basically we had practical looking alarm strobes with full DMX control.

All the cameras were genlocked and sync'd up with clockit boxes so they were firing at the same time.

As of now, this is how it has to been done. My next mission is to get board manufacturers to take a genlock signal for cueing.

But as for fixing half frame strobes? Its a VFX fix, or you might be able to minimize it in color correction by throwing a window around the unflashed portion, and then blowing it out.

What settings did you use in camera?
Like Shutter, FPS, 2k/4k,...

Thanks a lot!
