  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon/Samyang 85mm Cine SOOO SHARP

Has anybody had any experience with the new 14mm used at f2.0? I curious how this lens holds up for atrophotography wide open.

I to want to say, thanks Matt really great stuff. I too have the Rokinon set they really are quite great. I do have an off-topic question. What have you found to be best settings when exporting from your chosen NLE for say Vimeo? Your kick outs always look great as well.

thanks again

Matt GREAT looking shot, yet again...

What I haven't found yet is a good comparison between the Samyang 14 and the 16. Since they are so close to each other, it would be nice to know which one performs better.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the 14, not sure if it was the design or I just got a bad copy. But having traded in for the 16 for FF purposes, it unquestionably lives up to the hype, in my case anyway.

Looks interesting. I see a very interesting set being built here

Oooh yes... but they need to get that 50 out!

And I still don't get why they sell their kits with the 14 instead of the 16mm...
only ... probably because the 16 is APS-C :(

couldn't agree more Matt, I've got the 14,24,35,85 and love them, as run and gun lenses you cant get anything better when it comes to value for money. A few weeks ago I shot an entire music video just on the 35mm.
I just wish they all had the same front diameter so using screw on filters would be easier when not using a big setup with mattebox. nice shot !

These rings are all 80 front diameter and are threaded. Add step up rings to the 72mm lenses and you're good to go.

I also just got the new 8mm hoodless cine fisheye. It's pretty badass and covers 5k with only slight vignette. They need the 50mm out asap.

True that....it's sad that people are swayed by brands....but hey, that's changing. And yeah man, I wish they were tougher so I could bash them around a bit....they are well made, but the plastic was a bad choice. Keeps cost down I guess, but I'd pay double for something stronger.
Hey Matt,
have you seen these?

They do a 24,35 and 85mm versions all based on Samyangs, metal housing and larger focus markings. Okay a bit more than double the price but they look pretty good to me.

Hey Guys,
As this thread is about Samyang/Rokinon, I have a question for Rokinon users.
I plan to put the 14mm in a water housing and I need to filter the lens, matte box is not an option and I don't see any filter thread or drop in filter for this lens.
Anybody has an idea on how to mount ND on that lens?

The 14 isn't threaded because it has the fixed petals on it, which I absolutely hate. It's a gorgeous lens otherwise.

Just gotta chime in and +1 everything thats been said ... I got 14/16/24/35/85 all cine-versions ... and for the missing 50 i use my ancient but trustet nikon f1.2 ... these babies rock ... and with my new Letus Anamorph-X Adapter on them something weird happened to me: This dream i had of a Kit of Hawk Vantage 74-Glasses stopped coming back every night ... finally ;-)))
