  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine lenses are here!!

I've used the 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 85mm lenses and have all of them but the 14mm. I only have a 5D III to shoot with, though, but I can post sample shots (stills) if anyone wants--at like f1.4 and f4 or something?

What would you like to see?

I agree with the above, btw. The 14mm is super sharp but has too much distortion to be used for video. At all. The 24mm is not that bad. Usable wide open, but the worst of the three.

My 85mm just arrived. Less than 48 hours since it was shipped from B&H. Amazing how fast they get the stuff to Europe. Unfortunatley xmas stress is building, so not sure when I will have time to test it

I intend to get the whole set from the 8mm, 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 75mm including the Tokina 11-16 mm, Canon 50mm a total of 7 lenses. My question is what lens case are you all using to move these lenses around ?
Thanks

Depending on the shoot, but I often have a selection in my Kata back pack and the rest in a small foamed flight case. I do a lot of location work though

I've been testing the 85mm Cine against my 35mm Cine and a Tokina 11-16mm for the past few days.

I dont have that much experience with any of the above lenses (a month into my Scarlet) so its basically simple tests.

However I find the 85mm a little more challenging as a basic point and shoot lens.

I cant wait to really try these in a real film set environment.

I might buy one or two more lenses to complete my Canon mount set.

Anyone have any input on what I need to compliment the above set?

My next goal is to get PL mount and test out the RED PRIMES from work.

They are great with our RED MX but have never seen that glass on my personal Scarlet.

Just wrapped shooting the intro to Kevin hearts new comedy documentary in Philly. Can't really go into detail about it. First big job with multiple REDs with the Rokinons. We really needed the 1.5t as we were shooting a live comedy event at the Wells Fargo center. We used the Rokinons mostly for crowd reactions where we really needed the light, and the tokina 11-16 for steady cam on stage, we did throw in a canon 8-15 fisheye zoom into the mix also. They all seem to cut well with each other giving the different f-stops and coatings. Really loving these lenses for the price.

Looking forward to seeing this.

Just ended up ordering the full set, minus the 8mm as I really have no use for a fish eye. I've got the 14 .28, 25 1.5, 35 1.5, and 85 1.5 all on the way. Got a great deal as well. All 4 for just under $2000.

Where? Looking for a similar set.

My Camera's Rental pickup was pushed until tomorrow morning so I decided to do a quick spec with the Rokinon 35mm 1.5t at wide open with my girl at my place for fun. Only light sources was the 5 candles around the bath tub. The biggest candle was a little crazy to say the least...

Thanks Jon that was fun :)

I'ts my fave lens to date.

Indoor or outdoor it does a great job with my Scarlet.

Thanks, my girl was not expecting to shoot anything last night but once I lit the candles, I was like super speeds... And got the camera. Luckily she's used to me doing this. Haha

Recieved my 14mm cine after getting rid of my standard one. Is any one experiencing the marks being off. Mine arnt even close and this is the second copy I have

Each camera and lens is different ... Restripe the lens for yourself, don't trust marks...

Hey Jon,
Did you use 320ISO on the shot? Looks great, very noise free.

I have to start doing real work with this lens.
There are times when point and shoot don't work too well.
But that's probably the case with most fixed lenses.
Lack of experience dont help either.
I need to use this and the Scarlet in real world set-ups soon.
I really love what Im seeing during my tests :)

I actually did 800ISO. I also did REDLOGFILM for my gamma space in this scene. I didn't really Color Correct at all, and forgot to letter box to 2.4:1. But it looked good for wide open with a buzz.

wanna post a 1 frame R3D grab? Would be fun to color and see how noisy the image is.

I actually ended up getting the full set from a seller on Ebay. The same seller had listed all of the lenses for buy it now, but then had listed each individual lens as an auction. I waited for 4 days for the auctions to go through. I got the lenses between $50 and $150 for less than the buy it now, or the normal price on BH photo. BH photo has all the lenses available last time I checked.
I got the lenses yesterday, all brand new and I have to say that I'm quite impressed from my initial looks. I will be posting so things shortly in the future.
