  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine lenses are here!!

Michael,

Could you be more specific about the lens softness? Was this just wide open or generally.

All of the 8mm fisheyes are really, really soft wide open. Thats the only caveat.

Once you stop down to 5.6, it becomes as sharp as any other lens.

Yes, I hit the record button, so I can show you. Mind you this comes with a caution. I did not put much effort into getting the settings right. I saw the distortion and knew it was not a lens for me.

Michael,

I assume this is the 8mm? I was wondering what you think of your 24mm performance ?

yes, 8mm

I'm reserving judgment on the 24 till I properly test it, I had tried a stills 85mm and 35mm that was super sharp. I'm wondering if what I bought was inferior, and not normal. The guys at the DV Shop are going to run some tests with their. I like the way it handles, so I'm hoping it something that I'm doing wrong. Just no time to test it in full sun to know that focus is a bit soft. I'm going to try it on my Mark II tomorrow.

Just got my 24mm Cine T1.5 lens in and here are my impressions.

Very very smooth focus ring. The throw is about 150-160 degrees which is really decent for a wide angle lens. Aperture ring is also very smooth. My biggest quirk is the sharpness at T1.5. It seems like my Rokinon 85mm 1.4 performs just slightly better at that f-stop. If you're shooting at anything past T2.8 on the 24mm, it's razor sharp.

Great lens for price conscious scarlet users, definitely.

there are very few lenses in the world that are tack sharp wide open. some from the stills world, some from cine world. my nikon 50mm f1.2 is okay wide open but really sharpens up by f2. nature of the beast. so these rokinons are pretty good for the money.

I had my first shoot with my 35mm Samyang the other night. We did a small parody of Drive for a TV show over here. It was a profile shot of guy sitting in the car waiting at night. Looked really great for that price I would say. I´m still waiting on my 24mm from B&H, as it´s not in stock yet unfortunatly. I don´t have a pic to post yet though. Maybe tomorrow

That's odd; they must have run out. It certainly WAS in stock; I bought my 24mm from B&H 2-3 weeks ago.

Hi Mike, do you have the Canon mount?
It´s still out of stock at B&H.
After I got my 35mm B&H listed it as back ordered (guess I got the last of that batch). The thing is, the 35mm is back in stock, but not the 24mm. Guess I just have to wait.
In Norway they only sell the 8mm cine version for some reason.

the difference from Samyang cine to standard is gears, De-clicking, and better focus throw (breathing)? Its the same glass as the regular, correct?
