  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine 85 in late november

Hmmm interesting. I recently got hold of a German Contax Zeiss 85mm f1.4 but it need a bit of work to clean it and get the focus barrel functioning smoothly. The cost would probably be the same as buying one of these new and I already have the 24 and 35mm Samyangs...

Wow, how did I miss these lenses ?
They look very interesting, T1.5 is very nice and so is the price.
So for now there is a 24mm T1.5, a 35mm T1.5, a soon to be 85mm T1.5, and from what I've seen they are working on a 50mm... (and in the meantime I guess the Canon f1.4 50mm could replace it)

The 85mm photo lens is great, but the 35 is breathing quite a bit…

I love my 85mm photo lens. I bought it on a whim when it was the only 1.4 they had.

It was like $230 bucks.

Incredible deal.

Yes, the prices are incredible. You could have a full set for less than what a cheap prime costs...

Is there any place where you can order these in Europe, or is B&H the only way ?

heard they're coming out with a 10mm... don't know why they didn't improve on their 14mm distortion or maybe a regular 50mm/telephoto.

What do you think of those?

Sorry only just seen this. I love them to bits. Very well made. Metal and plastic but feel solid. Nice focus rotation. A bit of CA wide open but to be honest I have the same with the Zeiss lenses I have too. Seems to all go away by f2.8 anyway. Still thinking about selling the 85mm f1.4 for this if that's any indicator.

They are great lenses but the build quality are bad. Still useable though. It's just that I'm use to good old metal lenses.

Hey Nils, these are available in Germany under the name Walimex from Foto-Walser. And in Poland under their original name Samyang - also in the UK I think.

Cheers.

I would love it if they could come out with a 18mm 50mm and a 100mm next. Would be a great set to have a all modern 1.5t set 18, 24, 35, 50, 85, and 100 set. Getting a little closer with the 85mm!

They've been making quite a noise lately and the company keeps adding new ones
per people's requests. Have not seen a whole lot of good footage from them though..
anyone have some good footage links to share.

here are 2 articles by Duclos on them

Working on the edit for a new short film now. The whole thing was shot on the 24mm Rokinon Cine lens. Here are some stills:

Oh, great ! Thanks Patrick, Foto-Walser indeed seems to have the cine version too. So the name changes, but everything else is exactly the same, right ?

Yup Nils, it sure is. The Samyang lenses are being sold und different names: Rokinon, Walimex, Bower, Falcon, Vivitar and Walimex. Maybe I even forgot some. Though it seems that not everyone offers the cine versions yet. As long as the lens has one of these names and looks the same and gives the same specs, you can be sure its just a rebrand. Only thing you have to deal with is which logo you like more ;)

But comparing still makes sense, because the prices differ quite some depending which brand you buy in which country. Samyang are more expensive in Germany than the Walimex for example. Happy hunting

I noticed BH had Rokinon and Samyang Cine 35mm, are they the same lenses?

Only diff is that Rokinon are out of stock and I would like to jump on these right away.

Yup Rokinon and Samyang are identical - see above post
