Does anyone have a Rokinon 24mm they would care to comment about? I have the 35 and the 85 and was wondering if I should add the 24mm to the set. Thanks.

i have the 24mm and 85mm and both are excellent lenses. on a side note, rokinon is releasing a cine version of the 24mm so i would probably hold out till its made available.

Thanks for the input, guys. And yes, I saw that Rokinon will be releasing cine lenses. Meanwhile, I have been in contact with Matthew Duclos to modify the 35 and the 85 tht I already have. If the Rokinon cine lenses are more than the Duclos mod cost, I may go that route instead of buying the cine versions.

I am very happy with my Rokinon set. I like that they are slightly larger than their Zeiss counterparts, and the picture is great...

I was recently looking at the Samyang / Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens. Seems like a few sites (lenstip, dxomark, photographyblog) praise the lens except for Ken Rockwell. I'm also looking for opinions on this as another Rokinon wide lens. A 14mm lens at $400 seems too crazy to be true.

I wasn't wowed by it, but it's okay. I don't remember the resolution being as bad as Ken Rockwell claims (I tried it on a 5D so it's hard to know, anyway), but the distortion is pretty bad. I think for stills it would be okay, as you could remove distortion in post, but for video it's a tricky lens when photographing anything with straight lines. For video landscapes it might be fine.

I know the Nikon 14-24mm (which I haven't used, to be fair) is sort of the holy grail of UWAs, but the 14mm Canon L has the least distortion I've seen and apparently less than the Nikon so I'd take that for video. Although falloff and corners aren't great at 5K with it, the 11-16mm Tokina is still probably the most compelling UWA for anything but FF, and I've used it on the 5D at 16mm and even there it covers okay with really bad edges and it holds up mostly great on the Epic from what I've seen. Pretty sharp and minimal distortion for very cheap.

My current lens of choice (I shoot on a 5D) is the 17-40mm Canon L. Cheap, but not recommended. Soft corners and serious distortion. Small, weather-sealed, and nice build quality, though.

Thanks Matt for that great insight into the Samyang distortion. It seeems like all roads point to the Tokinon 11-16mm based on user reactions on this forum. I've had my sights on the Nikon 14-24mm for a while, but I was going to get a cheap wide angle for now to hold me off until RED comes out with the DSMC Nikon Mount to support that lens. I shoot on Zeiss ZF.2 glass so I'm counting the days...

All the prices on these lenses are "crazy" but we have to remember they are manual. I was, and partly remain, skeptical, but iI am pretty impressed with my 35 and 85 so far.

Ok, they need to come out with these cine versions ;)

8mm is out but what about the announced 14, 24 and 35 cine versions? :)

EDIT: and with the 8mm cine without the fixed lens hood ;)

Patrick - I am planning on having my current 35 and 85 modded to cine-lens by Matthew Duclos. Otherwise, looking forward to the new cine versions and, hopefully, a 50mm, too.

I think that's even better than their own cine version ;) I believe in Matt!
For us europeans it's a pain because of the oversea shipments... :(

Didn't realize the 8mm had a fixed lens hood. On first blush, that seems like a deal killer but, as I thought about it, I am not sure why it would be a problem. It's not like you could effectively use a matte box or attach a filter. It is a bit of a "special effects" lens. Am I missing something?

No,not missing anything Terry. I just used the standard EF lens (not the cine version) past saturday on a skate shoot.
that as well has the fixed lens hood and it worked fine. as you said: it's a speciality lens. but if you would ever want to shoot
with a lower f-stop, of course you would need a matte box and I read somewhere - I think a samyang post on Facebook -that a
screw on lens hood version for the cine lens is in the works... no to find that ;) ...hmmmm
