  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Roger Ebert flips out over Baraka Bluray

I'm catching your drift Tom. Just let me know when and where and I'll be there. How were you thinking about showing it?

At least on my 24" LCD with a nice sound system. Actually, out in the desert, you would be surprised at how such a small screen looks awesome. Sound is part of it. But if we could get a nice LCD TV and stand-alone Bluray player, that would be even better. I have a huge 140-amp-hour deep-cycle battery that can power the whole thing.

Depending on how many people go out there I would say find someone that has or rent a small 1080p projector. That would be really cool out there but might be a bit more than what you were thinking.

"Baraka" and "2001" are the two films I want to see the most on Blu Ray in 1080p. Then again, I'd much rather see them 4k on RED Ray if that's ever going to be possible.

But for now, I'd be in heaven in a sound proofed, completely black room with a nice 70" Samsung 81 series 500,000:1 contrast ratio screen and Baraka in the Blu-ray drive, blasting on some pimped out sound system. Pure stimulation.

Tom; I'd opt for a projector if you're going to be out in the desert right? It wouldn't matter that the contrast isn't that great since it would be pretty damn dark out there I'd imagine?

Heh, I think you guys might be right about the projector, assuming there is no wind to blow the screen away. :)

Yes, 4k will make a difference in the home. You'll be able to sit up real close without seeing the pixels for a truly immersive experience.

What would be sick is to have someone bring out a motor home and just put the screen against the side of it. Would be great for a 2.35 image. Then if there was any wind it wouldn't be that much of a concern.

That's why we need Red-Ray VTR and Red 4K Projector!:matrix:

The timelapse stuff that I do is often referred back to this movie, which is funny to me because I'm not sure I've seen this one. I've seen Koyaanisqatsi after I started doing my timelapse on my 20D and someone said that I had to see it. I've been trying to hold off on getting a Blu-Ray player for a while now. But I've been getting questioned by people asking when I'm going to release a Blu-Ray version of my stuff. "Baraka" might be my reason to get a PS3 or some other BR device.

Your timelapse reel is really cool... but the city TL stuff is only a small part of what makes Baraka amazing...

Imagine you and Tom had a baby, and he borrowed "Daddy Tom's" MoCo rig, a 65mm camera, a sick original soundtrack, a ticket to go anywhere in the world he wanted to, and most importantly threw in a massive human element, non-verbal social commentary, and masterful editing, and now we're getting close to the achievement that is Baraka.

Watching it in the desert under the right "circumstances" sounds awesome...
