Hey all,

I know this is conjecture, but do you really think the internal battery in the upcoming RODE NTG4+ will produce sound as good as when powered by my Juiced Link or Sound Devices preamp?

Just wondering if someone more technical on sound might have any insights?

Jeff

Curious on this as well...just ordered the battery powered one today actually.

From my understanding, the battery is simply for powering the microphone, so you won't need to use Phantom power with the 4+, thus saving battery on the pre-amp.

Putting this microphone through a pre-amp will still help get cleaner signals than directly connecting the microphone to a camera, and using a battery vs phantom power should not affect actual sound quality. I have a NTG-2 right now, and choose to put a AA battery in the mic, as AAs are a lot cheaper than 9V batteries are. The AA battery will last all day as well, and makes my 9V battery last much longer, by being able to disable phantom power.

FYI, I think the sound quality of the NTG-4 is supposed to be below NTG-3 but better than NTG-2. In case you weren't aware.
