Rod length question

i can just imagine the responses this title will generate, but i couldnt think of any better wording...

i just ordered the base production pack that includes 18in rods. i have a RED 18-85 with a redrock matte box on the front. will the 18in rods be long enough, or do i need to order 24's?

I think they will work, but you might not be able to grip anything from the back (cradle) as they will be pulled pretty much to the front... You might want to get 24s or top mounts and rods for the cradle...

I´d suggest the 24 inch rods. Gives you more flexibility. Have you considered the Ultrarods from ET ? Thery are much lighter.

ETs are great, but Red Carbon rock! They are sooo sturdy and so light you can't feel them! They hold my 300mm, FF4 and MB20 like a joke... Have no fear, your 1st AC could still sit on them before they flinch!

Heres the carbon 24" with the 300mm... Take off 1/4th and you have an idea of where you get with 18"... (and an idea of what the carbon can handle!)

thanks for the answers. i looked into the carbon rods and i think i'll definitely grab pair of those if i cant make the included rods work. does anyone know if RED will credit those rods back against the 24" carbons even though they were part of the production pack?
