So I got the final piece of my RAID-5 system today, the EnhanceBOX E8 PM (2 port eSATA). However, when I installed the drives, only two of them came up. I am now realizing that the 2322 card does NOT seem to support Port Multiplier enclosures. Therefore, to see all 8 drives in the RAID I would need two Mini-SAS to eSATA fanout cables and a RAID box that had 8 external eSATA connectors.

So now I am looking to get another card that will support my current E8 box's two eSATA connectors (I still need the 2322 card for my LTO-3 SAS drive, so that's okay)

Does the 2304 sound like it should work with what I need? (http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/rr2304.htm)

It says it's "Port Multiplier ready for up to 20 drives" That sounds like I should be able to connect two eSATA between the card and the box and see all 8 drives to make a RAID-5, correct?

we spoke about this a little while back. i sent you a PM about this today. weird. but it seems i was a little late!!! they say that the EnhanceBox E8-ML (Multi Lane) gives faster performance as well. that's how i'm going to go. you may want to exchange the box not the card. make sure you have the mini-SAS to eSATA cable as well if you don't already.

I went ahead and ordered the 2314 because it was the same as the 2304, except that the 14 is a 4x card and the 04 is 1x card. I would have exchanged the box except that with the 2314 and a PM box, I can put two PM boxes on one card and have 16 drives--where as the ML box takes up both ports and will only support 1 box. It turns out just as well since I already needed a Mini-SAS card for my LTO-3 drive.

i've been extremely disappointed with everything highpoint has made. their tech support is terrible and there are major conflicts when using more then 2 of their cards in the same machine. trust me stay away. I've even been told by enhance to stay away from their crap
