ROCKETCINE-X Bugs, Comments, Help...

OK so my biggest problem is that, with the SDI output active, the histogram becomes non-responsive on the DVI driven monitor. Rasterising and debayer good so far. Nonetheless, colour me impressed!

My number one issue is with the color. Somehow (gamma space, color space, etc.), the colors are coming in from camera really jacked up. We are build 18...shot 2 cameras today...both color/gamma were RED Space. We brought them in and everything was way off. If I selected RED Space for both "looks," it looked horribly oversaturated.

So, it seems like something is still wrong with metadata being passed from camera to RocketCine. Known problem?

When clips come in, RRX doesn't pick up metadata for color/gamma space yet, always throws to Rec709 and Camera RGB. Also, maybe the new color science is jacking it up, which you won't see in the monitoring of b18, only b20.

Don't know if this helps, just thought I'd throw it out there while waiting for a real answer!

The pipeline either goes out to monitor or back to the computer but not both so histogram doesn't work while playing at the moment (the card is doing an amazing amount of work doing everything at full 4k, so doing both monitor output and back to host will break realtime performance). We're looking at implementing a parallel path for application side but that's still tbd what speed/resolution we can get out of it.

Yes, looks and render presets saving and loading fine here.

Anyone else out there have a monitor capable of receiving 1080p @ 29.97? If so, do 24fps clips played out to the monitor play too fast? I've sent this bug to Deanan, but know if anyone else has replicated it. It does the same when I'm connected to a Samsung DLP or Magnavox LCD, both fed via an HDMI to DVI cable.

Deanan- I lost picture when i upgraded to the latest build! Any ideas?

REDuser is not a very efficient means for us to support you. Please, ALWAYS email us first so we can respond faster.

Already being changed. Should be in the next build or the build right after.

No problem with that :-) Would be great to see what sort of interactivity you can get as the tool is refined, even on a still frame rather than a clip playing down. I like the company on the chipset - big fan :-)

I noticed the same thing on an 11 series panasonic. To be honest the software is so buggy it is difficult to use. The problems are too numerous to list here.

My biggest concern is my Kona Lhe. I use it for HD-SDI out for both FCP and Color. I have not been able to make it work from slot 3. The idea of giving up the ability to color correct and edit without it won't work. I may remove the RR until the SDK and associated software catch up.

I know it won't be that long before this board fulfills all of my expectation. It's just a little ahead of the code.

Until then I will try some other configurations to see if I can get the Kona working.

Frank, can you email us what problems you've been having?

Does Rocket or the Kona not work in slot 3?

Deanan, in the latest Mac Intel's, the Kona LHe only works in slot 2, the same slot you guys are recommending the Rocket goes in. Per AJA's site, the Kona 3 will work fine in slot 3, but the LHe (which we have 4 of!) must be in slot 2.

I may switch the Rocket to 3 and see how we do there. Have you guys tested it in 3 at RED?

Kevin

A note about this to Jeff and Deanan, though it sounds like this is changing soon anyways...

We shot 2 cameras today at 29.97. Neither would play back at 29.97 out of the card, but would at 24 fps. Jeff, have you tried that? It works for us. Obviously not right yet, but works for now and does not play out fast.

Thx.

The rocket should do fine in slot 3. The main thing that will be affected though is that 4k images going back to the computer will be slowed down. There's should be plenty of bandwidth for 2k/HD.

Linux support for the SDK

Linux support for the SDK

Hello,

LOVE the rocket, and RedCineX is impressive. I have a Mac pro sitting beside a BaseLight 1, and the Rocket plays back 4K on par with it. Impressive. Now the question is, should I send my card to Filmlight so that they can integrate it into the BaseLight using a Linux version of the SDK; or should I hang on to it and use the Mac as the DPX file making machine because I will somehow (Clipfinder, Crimson or Monkey) be able to input FCP XML files and magically a conformed stack of DPX files will appear on my Mac. I can then send those to the BaseLight. Advice? I guess the crux of the biscuit is whether or not a Linux version of the Rocket SDK is in the works sooner or much later in the product cycle. Either way, it's all good, nice work.

peace

Deanan,

No support for reading RSX in Roecketcine-X?
