Rocketcine EOL

I was wondering why the decision was made to EOL Rocketcine? I quite preffered it to red cine-x for a number of reasons, the biggest of which were the Clean UI and more importantly, It transcoded faster. I just installed the new Rocket driver and firmware and it has essentially killed Rocketcine. I assume there was some advantage to doing things a different way than before, but what are the real benefits of the new firmware, and has the speed issue been taken care of.... I am sure i could learn to live with the different UI, but the speed difference was rather large. So can I ask the Red Genii out there to inform me of the benefits and whether or not the speed issue was solved? thanks !

RocketCine was developed quickly to get early Rocket adopters up and running with some software. It served as a test bed for a lot of the features that went into REDCINE-X. From here on out, RED is concentrating on REDCINE-X and it should help only having one application to support on both Mac and Windows as opposed to two.

I still think the REDCINE-X UI needs some help. While it does look very nice, it isn't that streamlined. We've been told there would be a new UI coming at some point and I'm sure we haven't seen it yet. We did get the side tabs for the browser, bin, etc.. But I'm not wild about those. I want to see more configuration options for window docking, undocking locking, etc. The ability to enable or disable windows and features so we can make the interface as simple or as complex as we want.

As for the transcode speeds. RocketCine was faster for transcodes a while back and also faster for playback too. It seems that the 24x and 252 revisions of REDCINE-X have addressed most of those issues. But I also admit that I haven't been really working in REDCINE-X lately and I've only just downloaded the latest 252 build yesterday and have not given it more than a quick glance after installing it. The software is still beta and hopefully we'll see a more optimized and stable release very soon. It feels as if it's getting close.

I'm with you Jeff and have not really worked with RCX as RRX was much better in function and layout for use with the Rocket.

I do need to sit down and test RCX but I will say the interface is so messy is hard to look past that. I do think RED are doing a fantastic job and the software is progressing but is just taking so long and STORM will be here soon, which I'm hoping will bring the much needed professional tool for working with RED.

My hope is STORM will bring real functionality for RED users working with large amounts of data day in day out.

I too loved the layout of rocketcine the only thing i would have changed was adding the ability to make it a double monitor layout. Otherwise it was perfect, espescially for generating dailies. But I guess if the speed issues have been sorted out on the most recent build of redcine x, it must be time to get used to the new interface.
