  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rocket Mavericks problems.

I am running the rocket in mlink box with mavericks without any problems at all...

This is ugly. I had to pirate bay an install to get out of 10.9.3. What the hell are they thinking!?!?

have you tried the r9 290 in Yosemite ?

Do you think Yosemite is debugged enough at this point in time? It seems a bit early in the dev timeline to mess with.

I guess I'm still a bit gun shy after they pushed out a release build that several folks who know their knitting considered a rather substantial rewrite from the last beta seed. As a general rule the Mac/OSX user base is attracted to a bulletproof architecture that doesn't require a lot of IT support. I think Apple knows that. Moreover, if they can get a stable Yosemite on the street sooner than later it will dampen the 10.9.3 blowback. Hopefully they are using some of that ginormous pile of cash they have to allocate sufficient resources to get Yosemite well sorted right out of the gate.

Cheers - #19

well i got on the public beta test of Yosemite they pushed out a week ago and got a spare boot drive running it and Resolve 11, Decklink, RAID and Tangent panels going as a test and it seemed fine. Not a lot of time on it though, 10.9.4 is my daily driver. I'm running 3 r9 280x in a cubix and am real interested in the 290 as I hear it's native in Yosemite already. But somebody would still need to release a 6GB+ version of it as 4GB doesn't cut it for me...

Ive had this issue with audio on a new Mac Pro (a few of them) with Avid MC, UltraStudio4K and RED ROCKET using a Sonnet Express III-R enclosure.
The audio would pop and stutter/static from all aspects of audio whether desktop to NLE.
However the same system has Pro Tools and HDX on a different Sonnet Express.
I dont know how I didnt catch this but that was always working fine.
Long story short, the cause is the RED ROCKET.
In order to use the HDX Sonnet enclosure I have to disconnect the ROCKET Sonnet enclosure.
I found this issue on both Yosemite and Mavericks.
I was doing other tests with another new Mac Pro and left the ROCKET as the last driver install.
Once that was installed the audio issue came back.
I will be reporting this to RED asap.
Even with audio output via UltraStudio4K, the issue exists thanks to the ROCKET.
I am using last years drivers.
Tomorrow I will install the latest which I found buggy a few weeks ago on a different Mac Pro.

I've had the same issue with Yosemite and Mavericks. Also have UltraStudio4K and RED ROCKET using a Sonnet Express III-R enclosure.

ILong story short, the cause is the RED ROCKET.

No question about it. Exact same here. Without RR everything works perfectly.

As it turns out the issues I was having with the new Mac Pro involves Black Magic Desktop Video drivers.

No matter what I do, having both ROCKET and any BMD I/O device due to Desktop Video drivers causes audio issues across the board.

This was the major issue of playback I had with Avid MC and here I was blaming Avid.

Any audio playing option in that system is total Rice Krispies :P

The worse part is that BMD Tech has no definitive option for uninstalling the drivers.

Their uninstall app dont work right according to them.

So I have to reformat the internal drive afte each f*ck up install :P

Every Macbook Pro i've worked with needs to have the OS-X reinstalled after purchase, the vanilla OS install from the factory always has bugs, such as USB device latency, video driver glitches, buggy display drivers, etc, etc.

Does this involve the RRX as well? Or is it just a RR issue?

According to RED the ROCKET X isn't an issue ye with new Mac Pros.

I dont have one to test sorry.
