  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rocket crashes and stops playback/ rendering...claims corrupted frames

I am having the exact same problem as you guys are. I bought a BT RR from the Red store in July, and this does not make me happy. I do not wish to shell out another 3 grand to replace a card I used for only a few months.

going through the RMA process with RED now, should have an idea by next week what the situation is. Quite interesting to see how many people are having the same issue. I hope this wont really cost 3000$, considering a completely new rocket is "only" 1500$ more.

I live in fear of all of this each time I boot up my dedicated macpro / RR workstation. For those that have failed cards, is the machine powered 5 work days a week? Or, only a few hours at a time?

David: I use my rocket in a Sonnet Thunderbolt enclosure and only really use it to transcode...so whenever I have red footage to view or transcode....which on average is around 2-3 times a week with footage ranging from 310ish - 500gb each time....I power down my computer, plug in the thunderbolt ( hot plugging does NOT work), reboot the machine, do the transcoding and then power down, unplug the card and start editing. So the card is definitely not running all the time and really only has a few hours of encoding or footage viewing runtime per week. All in all I would say my rocket doesn't have more than 250-300 hours running time all up and is 2 years old.

I have my card in a MP Tower and it has been sub-rented regularly to another MP tower, both running 10.6.8 - no problems until Dec when the other guy updated to the latest firmware and drivers and I was forced to update my system. I would say that it was used maybe 5-10 days a month for the last 30 months, but with several months not being used at all. It was not used that frequently in my opinion. It sat in my tower for 5 months while I was on a job elsewhere, so the tower wasnt even powered on for that time. Havent tested in 10.8 yet. Flashed the card, reinstalled everything, no luck, same error.

It is curious that this is all happening with the latest firmware updates...

I sincerely hope this is just a problem based around the latest firmware and can be fixed. A hardware fix seems much more costly, not to forget all the inconvenience of sending the card in and not being available for X amount of days/ weeks.

New R3d raw footage is piling up on my drives quickly, desperately waiting for some treatment.

Any word from Red? I've been testing all week in 10.6.8 and 10.8.2 with the latest firmware and get the same error results still.
