Hi,

What's the consensus on Rock N Roller Multi-Carts? I'm in need of some carts ASAP, and don't have the luxury of seeing them in first person.

Looking at their shelf and deck accessories, combined with their specs they seem to take on Magliners (at least the mid-range end of things).

I've only found one mention on the boards, and that's in an AC's kit list for hire, so nothing to go on so far.

I'm based in the UK so Film Tools ain't an option, and I can't find anyone in the UK who has anything suitable for what I'll be throwing at and on it.

Cheers.

I have had the rr-10 for 8 years and about 5 years in I had to upgrade the front wheels
and now its starting to show its age. I paid 159.00 for it and it has gone through the wringer. folds up nice good payload, I could buy 2 more and still not come close to the cost of some other carts. well worth the money.

I have the R-N-R 12 and it is a great cart, obviously you can't pretend to have this little thing replace a Backstage multicart, but then again at just over $200 US, this is a great tool for many uses.

It is light and easy to transport in the back of your vehicle and unfolds easily and carries all the load that you can put on, literally, just need to have those tires well inflated if heavy loading, or the opposite if taken to the beach then you deflate the tires to better go on the send.

Below is the link to B&H, they also do overseas shipping, good luck

I have one that I bought used about 5 years back. It's great, and we beat on it pretty hard. Always overloading to the point where the tubeless tires go flat.

I have one. Blew out my back 2 times in the past year with all the heavy cases and was time to get a cart - this thing has saved my back 50 times since then. I too had to replace the front 2 "soft tires" in less then a week, but just replaced them with soft/medium durometer "blue wheels" and it was good to go.

This thing is constantly way overpacked, but it keeps on going. Packs away nicely and also has doubled as my dolly a few times in a pinch.

I've used one quite a lot. For the price, they're hard to beat. Seems like it will keep rolling no matter how much you throw on it. Folds up nice and small for easy transport. As Ketch said though, it's certainly no replacement for a Backstage/Yaeger, etc.

Don,

Thanks for the Guitar Center link! It makes buying it 50$$ easier.

I'm guessing it gets the thumbs up then ;)

I've ordered two R12's with shelves and decks - As Evin suggests and I take heed of - I'll be using heavy duty "mobile workstations" in the studio for the computers and cameras. If the FX rate improves, or someone in the UK sells Yaeger carts, then I'll try and get one/some. In the meanwhile, I hope the R12's will do the job for location work!

If anybody's looking in the UK for a £129 dirty cheap cart with a 150kg payload - Modular Mobile Workbench @ Rapid Racking - you'll need a van and a good friend if you plan to take it on location, it's best suited for studios and on tarmac/concrete.

Cheers folks!

IMHO, the Rock-n-Roller carts seem a little light-duty for set use. I suppose if you need the ultra portability then that's the way to go.

I've been very happy with the FilmTools Junior Camera Cart:

It collapses to fit in my Camry trunk. However, it's too heavy to ship by air.

I'd love to get some FilmTools carts over here - just ain't going to happen until the FX rate improves and the shipping costs can be worked on (might call for a container and group purchasing).

I've got the R12s, not received the shelves yet, but happy enough for what they're going to be doing, and the low price I paid. I've got one loaded with 15kg sandbags at the moment, even sandbags on the "U" bars - and it's happy enough.

I'd love to find a way of stowing C-stands on a Rock'n'Roller cart - or find a trolley in the UK for them. I've got a sneaking suspicion I'll end up getting them custom made...

The Rock n Roller really is the best bang for the buck. It is flimsy though. Esp. the handles. After torturing one for 14 months, i've decided to go back to Magliner-type of carts.

Several years back, on a doc, I built one cart to transport all equipment. Backstage makes these little hook brackets, with them you can mount 4 C-stands under the top shelf.

Backstage does make some cool stuff... Just looking at their 102page accessories catalogue. Damn shame it's going to be so hard to get kit over here (given how big those carts are, and how ludicrous overseas shipping is)...

One question regarding Magliners - are they really strong enough to be used as the platform for all the accessories and gear I see being carted around? With all the upgrades and conversion kits, I do wonder if it would be easier to have something purpose built from the ground up - seems to be a weak link...

One of the guys I work with made a camera cart with speedrail, casters, plywood and carpet. Think he got it done for about 300 USD and a day of screwing around. This cart is used on jobs weekly for a few years now. Works great, and looks and runs like a legit cart. Does not look DIY, if you have the time to build it.

You guys are missing out!

You guys are missing out if you've never used this cart:

Expensive? YES, but read on...

Folds down smaller than my R-N-R, heavy duty steel construction, With an easy-to-install top shelf that holds a TON of weight, a fold-down-tongue for really big cases, and heavy duty wheels. This thing is fast and rugged. I killed my R-N-R in about a month, blew out the casters... and I swear by this cart. With the top shelf, it's great for AC work.
