Would have loved to see tree of life take this category. Hugo was beautiful cinematography wise, but also a lot of vfx

That said I really, really enjoyed Hugo, congratulations to that team they deserved it

Remember Avatar and DP Mauro Fiore's win? That was almost completely vfx.

Congrats to Bob!

It was beautifully shot, but I got really annoyed by having that back light in every single shot; including reverse.

Richardson is one of my favorites but this was Lubezky's year, no question about it.

I never saw Bob that nervous before! I truly think he believed The Artist was gonna win.

He's a terrific guy, very talented, and really deserved the award. Hugo was a beautiful, groundbreaking film in many ways.

Richardson himself was also surprised:

He’s on his third statue – after “JFK” and “The Aviator.”

He thought “Tree of Life” would win.

I found Hugo's image very unpleasingly post produced over colored and with a highly CGIed look. Richardson is the finest cinematographer In Hollywood and I admire his work. I think he did what they asked for. But this picture is not his best cinematography work of the year. IMHO...

Agree.

Also I didn't like HUGO's image look at all.

Have you seen the recent Blu-ray release? I think it's actually quite beautiful, and deserved the award. The "making of" documentaries are also quite good. It's pretty stunning, the number of physical sets vs. green screen work on the film. Very, very intricate filmmaking, and as far as I'm concerned, the lighting and camerawork were world-class.

Hugo is already out on Blu-ray? Wow...I didn't expect that.
