Has anyone noticed when your done working on a look in Red Cine x and the info is saved to the RMD you pull the clip up in premiere it looks different? I brought the shadows down (crushed blacks) and had a nice a nice look going. When bringing it into premiere there was nasty banding going on. I had to bring the shadows back up in premiere to get rid of them.

I thought that premiere pulled up the same meta data, so I'm confused as to why its doing that. Maybe I have to transcode to pro res. but I would rather not and work with the r3ds because it's faster. Hmmmmm...

If you have the standard settings, PPro has a mid gray background whereas in RedCine-X Pro it's black. The perception of colors and their tones depend on the neighboring colors, and this could already explain what you've observed. Both software systems have tools to measure colors. Have you checked whether the data, that is, the level of darks, is mutually compatible?

Lauri, I have not... Maybe installing the REDcolor3 would solve the issue.

The default setting on your epic are using redgamma3 and redColor3. Without that plugin from Adobe, it's definitely going to look different in Premiere. Make sure you reinstall them every time theres an update for Premiere.

Thanks, I'm trying now, but the installation directions on the readme are incorrect for the file path on where to place the documents, the CONTENTS folder is not in the Applications folder...

-*‐ ImporterREDServer.app Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app/Contents/
-*‐ ImporterRED.bundle Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app/Contents/Plug-*‐ins/Common/

Did you right mouse click on the Premiere App and select "enclosed contents"?

Correct me if i'm wrong but CS6 does not have full functionality of RCX yet. There is no Alchemy , no film grain, no unshape mask etc. to name a few. In fact only earlier this year CS6 was updated to take RED gamma 3 .

The only way to check what there (I know of ) is to open the RCX dialogue box within Premier 6 by right clicking on clip in a bin and navigating to properties ...I think?

Yep, your right, those options are definitely not there. I enabled alchemy and adjusted to my liking in RCX, saved RMD, pulled the clip in premiere, right clicked properties and got the attached...

So there is nothing wrong with Premiere, it just doesn't support the latest features that RED have added to RedCine-X. Adobe is hopefully - I think I read something about it somewhere - implementing support for this sooner or later. I'd love to have Alchemy in Premiere; anyone know of a plug-in for Premiere that generates the same effect?

A simple feature not supported or to the degree RCX has ability which seems a simple fix for Adobe is WB values greater than 9400. If you have a WB setting in RCX of say 10,500 or 12500 or anything greater than 9400, you simply cannot get this data translated to Adobe since they only allow the value to go to 9400. This would seem a simple fix, and frustrating for underwater work in that many values are set at greater than 10000 for WB....

Yes, it is frustrating. I really love grading in RCX... I caught on fast because it is so user friendly. But to not have the two correlate is a bummer. For rush projects I may just grade right inside of premiere not transcode from RCX and skip the post effects. :(

Yes.. particularly the clarity option? Anyone?

My experience workign with Redcine since 2007 is that it's not for grading...a good way to set some paramaters and then work in another program. I have YET to find any way that RCX does not transcode to Prores or DPX properly---always a bit desaturated and no jump to colors like in RCX.

Yes, I have noticed the desaturation and flat colors in my ProRes footage for sure.

I am dealing with this problem currently. The footage looks saturated in Redcine-x but when I save the RMD and reload it in my already built Premiere timeline, the footage looks flatter, and the scopes are slightly different than the Redcine-x scopes. Should I also post an .R3D snapshot as well?

Thanks for your help!
