Trying to minimize how high my Scarlet sits when thrown onto an Arri Dovetail.

Currently, I have the WC Easy Riser + the dovetail clamp, which makes the camera tower too high for my taste. Now, WC came out with the "Quick Riser", but if I use only the dovetail-compatible portion of that system, I lose the ability to keep my 15mm lightweight bracket and all of the accessories attached to those rods.

Anyone have a solution that would keep me from adding bulk to the bottom?

Hi Brendan, I have been struggling with this also. If you contact W/C they will sell you just the upper dovetail clamp portion of the quick riser. Screw it to the bottom of the riser and you lose about 1/2 of the thickness of the current clamp you have. Works great. Hope that helps.

The Red Quickrelease dovetail may save you some height... not sure if it's enough to make it worth switching though (32mm from bottom of camera to top of dovetail). Note - the Red kit is really well engineered (as you'd expect), only thing I wish it had would be spring retainers on the dovetail... makes me a bit paranoid when setting balance (In hindsight I'd probably have looked for a different dovetail, but the Red QR system is excellent).

In place of the dovetail you could use a longer tripod plate. I had a machine shop make a few for me, for various setups.

Tom, this is a great piece of info to know. Thank you (and thanks to everyone else for their input!)

David, you can use the RED QR Dovetail Base with any other ARRI-compatible dovetail in place of the RED dovetail. I use mine with the Element Technica 12" dovetail, which has safety stops at both ends...a hard stop at the front, and a spring-loaded release at the back.
