What an amazing athlete. What an amazing life.

The greatest of all time.

There will probably never be another Ali. In fact, I'll remove the probably. There will never be another Muhammad Ali. Period.

Check out the many documentaries on him on YouTube and then watch Michael Mann's film.

One of my favorites, although a lot was skipped over.
The scene of him running with the kids in Africa was so good.

The inspiration he gave the world in all senses of the world is greater than I think people might understand. I think the inspiration and willpower he brought to everyone shaped much of the world we live in today. The greatness of Muhammad Ali isn't that he said he was the greatest, it was that he inspired everyone to say it for their own lives. Such inspiration shape worlds.

He was a pillar of integrity and strength which makes him not only a champion among boxing champions but of all mankind. That strength of character is precisely what we need in America today.

What a Man.
The character. The Spirit.

Glass raised.

Saddened to hear, "The Greatest" has passed. The athlete, the showman, the visionary, the revolutionary, The Greatest! I only was in his presence 1 time. It was when he came to the Hill to speak before Congress. At the end of the meeting he walked over to me out of a dozen cameras and did a few play punches into my lens. Then he smiled and winked. The shot of the day! We are losing a lot of icons. I'm missing them all.

Nice post David, totally agree!

This politically correct or political correctness is pathetic. This man was a man like many other champions. With virtues and flaws. By the way, in the usual interviews before and after "the shows", the customary arrogance of "these sportsmen" was always there. To call himself "the greatest" is only the finest example of that.

Post-the Fabrication of the Ali Myth... I agree with Maria. Moreover, boxing should be banned. Primitive, nonsensical show off of human sadism. People to punch the most priceless part of human race, someone else's head. Come on guys, a little of food for thought here doesn't hurt anyone.

Title fighting is multi-faceted business and Ali understood it in a way that few others did that's for sure. One could argue that physical gifts were the lesser of Ali's attributes and he first and foremost dominated the mental game.

Arrogance is more than custom it is requisite. If you are going to claim the title you have to own it. You have to convince your opponent that it is yours and more importantly you have to convince yourself of it first. Those who fail to do that will ultimately fail to find the heart required to remain on their feet.

Like all fighting, boxing is a battle of will.

As far as customary arrogance mentioned by Maria in the above post, I am sharing a link here: http://www.ndtv.com/blog/when-i-fought-muhammad-ali-in-a-delhi-five-star-1415520?p

It talks about teenagers in Delhi calling him names and things like "you are way past your prime" etc and his nice response.

Gladiators to fight between themselves until death also was a requisite for fun of stupid minds in Ancient Rome. Slavery, a requisite for business in such form which resulted in a Civil War with more than a million of human losses, without mention the pain of several other millions of souls and bodies with a different luck. However, the game is over today.

Boxing and its requisites hadn't begun with Ali. Neither they will beat dead with him gone, unfortunately.

It is clear enough that you disagree with fighting for sport, but Ali was much more than a prize fighter and so this thread is about more than boxing. :-)

What I remember most about him is his honor, integrity and courage outside of the ring. What he did inside of the ring was remarkable but pales in comparison.

Do you appreciate his stand against the Vietnam war?

This thread is about honouring a Man which stood up to his beliefs, gave hope to oppressed people, fought racism, bigotry, had brains and balls to tell the warmongering lunatic parasites to go fuck themselves, most likely through that example saving thousands of lives, and had integrity and invincible Spirit inspiring millions.

You are welcome to open another topic discussing the parading in entertainment or two guys punching each other in the ring and we can expand on that one with joystick based wipe out of the ones praying to Allah and not subduing to live in perpetual debt slavery.

oh yeah?! wasn't boxing his notable craft??

Go to the ring, there's fight there. Who are you? The referee of this notable ring here now?

Because of this type of posts, many people out there avoid to express ANY viewpoint to the typical fanboyism everyone is used to read in these pages. Your post is a good example of it.

Who says so? Go and ask to the other millions who had their loved ones to fight and die in Vietnam instead.

Or what about to quote Martin Luther King on his The Nation of Islam (racist and anti-Semitic organization) affiliation? Wait, who was Dr. King after all? Not a pugilist, so maybe a new thread, you would tend to say?

"When Cassius Clay joined the Black Muslims and started calling himself Cassius X he became a champion of Racial Segregation and that is what we are fighting against. I think perhaps Cassius should spend more time proving his boxing skill and do less talking." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
