  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RIP George Carlin

wow, I didn't even realize he was 71! i figure we'd have another decade with him :(

He gave us many laughs!

My favorite skit was the SEVEN words you can't say on TV....
(when we had an FCC!)

RIP George!

I still remember being in ninth grade listening to "Class Clown" at a friend's house, I'll never forget that album. The guy had a sharp mind and acerbic wit. Didn't agree with his stances on many an issue, but I did like many, many of his insights into how depraved our society can be.

RIP George.

I read "Napalm and Silly Putty" over and over, even if you dont fully agree with the man his points are valid. Im a big fan of Mr. Carlin. And I agree, I think children are over protected.

rip mr. carlin. you are one of the few, a real inspiration....

It was interesting to see the contrast between coverage of George Carlin's death and Tim Russert. Sunday night CNN was talking about the media overdoing it. Russert was good at what he did, but I honestly think that even I could have done a decent job of what he did on Meet the Press. And I'm sure he was a really nice guy (but so am I - I did 12 years of Catholic school and my dad worked hard and honorably as part of the "greatest generation"). So I thought the the canonization of Russert was a little much.

But Carlin was an AMAZING talent. I couldn't do 5 minutes of what he did. He was a truly a genius, truly groundbreaking, truly an inspiration to many other comedians (apparently a nice guy too) - and he said more in that youtube video about what is wrong with America and what it would take to fix it - than all the Meet the Press shows combined. (and I'm not anti-business, or anti-corporation but WE have let them take over.)

Yet Carlin will get a tenth of the coverage Russert did - and only that much because he has so much funny material to draw from.

Agree with Aquavideo completely. And on a related note, although not of somebody perhaps as well known but TRULY equally important to the entertainment industry, I was blown away by the fact that not a single of the big press outlets even mentioned the passing of Stan Winston, a true pioneer and master of special effects for so many beloved blockbusters.

Russert was out there lobbing underhands at the plate, and Carlin was throwing daggers, and loading up the 50 cal.
Of course Russert will get more attention, he's the one they like.
I totally agree with you. Carlin was a true genius, because he spoke the truth, and made it all funny at the same time. For when the revolution comes, he made sure to tell the great seething hordes that we are not crazy, and that we are on the same side.
