  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Right Angle Mini-XLR

See Brook's Ergonomics thread. Add your support to his Input/Output suggestions for the Epic.

I know this does not help your imediate problem but if red maked these changes it will be appreciated by yourself and many others.

Oh my god are you serious?

There has to be some kind of solution. It's SO bad for the mini plug to be stickin out the side of the cam like this. What about some kind of break-out box for the audio section of the cam that isn't a nightmare in size like the Toys4Red box?

A breakout box that still keeps the Mini-XLR just points them down or somewhere else thats along the camera body so they don't stick out.

The Toys4Red box is too big for me. I just want the Mini-XLR along the body, not sticking out getting snagged/broken. I want to grip the camera body however I want, I hate when my hand touches that tiny mini-XLR sticking out along the side, the worst..

Andrew that looks nice but not for my needs.. I'm looking for SLIM as possible

Hey Zak, I agree the break out boxes are just too big that I have seen. AllStar made a decent break out for his XLR that I am looking for something similar.

I would like have a small full size XLR break out that can clamp to the rails above the mini Xlr inputs...anyone forward me someone who can build this for me, I am in NYC.

Cheers

Ok Ok...I think I can make some low pirce "audio box" for guys, but will be "homemade" type,I don`t want to expend too much time and energy.
So, who want this?

Hey ET!

Steve, here's another opportunity for you guys. Simple. Easy. Quick.

Maybe 4 inputs?

I'm interested in something homemade, it doesn't matter to me as long as it does what I want.

I need something that has Right Angle Mini-XLR going directly out of the red camera, it could go into a box but I don't see why. I just want my cables alongside the body, not perpendicular to the body. I would maybe cover them up with gaff tape or something afterwards so that audio would be going into the camera but I could still grip the camera BODY and not snag anything or have a mini-xlr getting in the way of my hand...

Would the SDK make it possible to do a RIGHT ANGLE USB cable going out the cam and into a tiny box you could put anywhere that would have mini-xlrs going into it? THAT would be nice, if right angle mini xlrs are impossible to make.. I just want nothing jutting out the side of the cam. nothing. no power, no audio, no bnc, no nothing. i want it all going along side the camera body, as brook says, it should be like this anyways...

INDEED sound is easy with a second recorder.

Sound is not easy with a second recorder when doing a one-man-band documentary with only yourself operating camera. Which is fine as is, with a camera mounted mike and sometimes wireless lavs, I just hate the cable sticking out the side of the camera and getting in the way of my hands, which I think I've described already a few times in this thread...

Anyone want to make a clamp on full size break out for channel 1&2 ?

I would also be interested in such a device. An audio box that's small and light weight with the ability to mount where ever you need it. Clamp on ability and the option to mount it to the Universal mount, RED handle, or top Cheese plate, etc would also be nice.

This device would be geared towards the needs of the ENG/EFP or Run and Gun style production where mobility and simplicity is paramount.

Phantom power could be nice but, given RED ONE's strengths, LINE LEVEL is a must.

If a potentiometer or two can be added this would deal with a lot of basic audio concerns people have with the RED.

Yes, I'm in the market for something like this.
