  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ridiculous question...

Does the "nifty fifty" (Canon 50mm f1.8) currently work on the Scarlet-X?

I know I know, cheap lens, expensive camera. We have lots of lenses, this just happens to be one of them. :biggrinjester:

I have always heard good things about that lens. Someone can link you to the "list." I don't know where it is!

Nice, thanks guys!

Would 50mm be "too telephoto" for backfocus adjustments on a chart? I think the only native Canon mount we have that is wider is the Tokina 11-16.

I have a Leica 50/2 R lens that I've yet to try on the Scarlet. I like it's more cine throw and markings but I wonder if I should get that Canon 50/1.8 for my 5D. It would be hard if not impossible to use on the Scarlet with a FF I would think.

LOL just for fun I took a look at what Ken Rockwell had to say regarding this lens...I guess this why we bought it in the first place.

I think I read that someone has been using Holga lenses on their Scarlet. Charlie, do you pull focus with it or do you reserve it for shots with a relatively 'fixed' focus?

I have used the nifty fifty on my Epic and Scarlet before and it works and looks great. Audio is hard to get with this lens on because there are so many people laughing there asses off around you with a lens like that on a camera like that. :)

Charlie, this had me laughing pretty hard on set! Looking forward to seeing you in LA next week! :)

You can use any lens (assuming it's own backfocus is correct). It's just that the depth of focus is shallower the wider the lens, so the wider the lens, the more critical the backfocus adjustment is. This means, assuming all your lenses have the same backfocus, adjusting your camera to the widest lens you will be using will mean the longer lenses should be fine too.
