Hi

Have any of you been able to test the revolva?

What is the quality of ND filters on it?

I hesitate between the PL and the PL-S: what does the PL add to the PL-S, is the transmitted data really important on Tokina or Sigma type PL lenses?

Thanks

/i data and metadata identifying the mount to the camera can be super important for some, but many never use it. Hence we offer the choice.

Bear in mind you can order the mount and filter cartridges individually, so you can have your choice of setup.

The filters are all modern full spectrum designs with excellent coatings for simple cleaning. Very neutral :)
We just started fulfilling a big order backlog - lots of people will get notifications this coming week, and we aim to have stock on the shelves for new orders in not long at all.

Olivier,

Somewhere in the archives of Reduser I did a fairly detailed look at the Revolva. Quality of the ND glass is top notch and I treat it as an indispensable piece of kit. Only real caveat is that on the large Monstro sensor there is a small vignette or light drop off on the extreme edges but this is only an issue for Monstro. Personally I love the lens data and find it a useful reference. One use is matching reverse shots as I can pull up the focus distance on the shot I am matching. Of course you need to be using lenses that support communication with the camera with the electronic mount.

what about dust maybe coming in into the cartdrige? is it closed enough when the cartridge is in?

And how bad is the gate flare?

Unlike their EF/E Mount counterparts, the Sigma Cine PL lenses don't have electronic lens data communication.

The PL-S is the best accessory I have purchased for my Red Gemini. Top shelf quality. Only downside is that it doesn't fit the wider focal lengths of vintage lenses like Super Baltars, Cooke S2/S3's, etc. Otherwise most modern lenses fit perfectly!

Im curious about dust or unwanted particulate getting inside near the sensor too. Considering that the revolva rotates freely in order to change densities on the cartridge, there has to be some small amount of physical gap. Is there some type of gasket or external cover that keeps the potential of particles coming through?

I can see where most will say I am one of those people that worries too much but I shoot in a lot of harsh environments with moisture, dust, wind, rain, fog, etc. and am concerned about particles especially in high winds/dust/sand beginning to work its way into the mount. I will be shooting this year on beaches with blowing sand, filming dirt bikes on sand dunes, shooting during snowfall, and 40mph car mounted gimbal rollers where a significant amount of air will be pushing against the mount.

What keeps dust, sand, moisture out in scenarios like this?

I love the concept, quality, aesthetics, and overall design and am about ready to purchase. This is really my only concern keeping me to pull the trigger on the revolva.

It is certainly possible for dust to enter, it is however pretty trivial to remove as well...

We've seen no tech reports or complaints to date in terms of dust ingress having posed an issue for either imaging or camera servicing though.

So far you are correct I have only heard great reviews. I know KipperTie is supported by RED as well so that speaks for itself. Any idea how long its takes for the build to order process?

I use one cartrige 0, 9, 15, 21 in my docu work. So I don't need to change the cartridge at all. Dust is more a problem when changing lens (as usual) thand due to the cartridge mechanical spacing. The cartridge sits tight in the mount.
If dust settles on the ND it's less an issue as if it settles on the OLPF as its further away from the sensor and the dust particles don't show as a black dots.
I shot in dust and tropic forest but had more problem with the lens (fog, dust) than with the Revolva. The lens flair, on my Canon Revolva mount, is (IMHO as I didn't do any scientific tests) stronger than on an regular mount).

Pat

PS: I love shooting with Revolva as it gives me the opportunity to shoot only with the deliverd sunnhood of the lens.

does anyone one if the PL-S works with Kowa Anamorphics?
