Retiring...

As long as work is beneficial to your health and well-being, work is a good thing. When it threatens your health and well-being, retirement should be an option. A third option is semi-retirement to strike a fine balance.

Besides, if you dump the whole load on Jarred, that threatens the span of time he can perform at his most productive level.

Jim, don't ever think of retiring. Red is all about you and your trusted team's passion. Jarred is as passionate as it gets, as the creator of one of the best and most important independent filmmaking ressources on the internet- dvxuser. I remember it from the early days, and Jarred's passion (as well as of some long time contributors) was what drove it to the success it is today. Ted knows absolutely everything about Red and says it with such passion and confidence- saw this personally at Reducation. Brian, always wearing his Red t-shirts, was always on the job in Reducation... We are talking about some of the top men in the structure of the company being this passionate... And These are the ones i've had contact or somehow interacted with. This spreads all the way down to costumer service, the bomb squad reps, etc. It's true, our field is very pragmatic. But passion is also an important aspect of creating images. We'Re here to stay. It's not because a particular moment in time that the competition has a certain edge that we will abandon Red and what you've done to your costumers. Keep pushing boundaries, keep the passion! I'm sure this passion, this commitment is what made the likes of Peter Jackson, Sodderberg, Fincher, Zemeckis and Scott to shoot on Red. Over here, in Asia, lots of award winning features are being shot on Red. And the future is promising. A whole new generation of shooters/ filmmakers/DOP's, coming from your Red camp initiative as well as from Scarlet purchasers and even now from the affordable Epic price, will help mold the future of filmmaking. And these people will always look for Red first in their minds!

Retirement is overrated. I used to play tennis with a group of 80 year olds. Everyone still worked, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. We no longer play because their bodies broke down, but never their minds. The level of tennis was not good, but it taught me patients (which I generally lack) and the value of keeping your mind engaged. Of course do what is best for you, I am sure when you do retire, you will have a very active retirement.
