Hello, I been shooting my videos at 8k WS so I can get a little of slow motion at 8k adn have this wide shooting, but when I use DCI Scope 2.39 I get in resolve this 2 black lines really small on the right and left, so I was wondering what is the correct way to shoot for DCI.

Usually what I do is

DCI Scope 2.39 for editing and then when I export I do DCI so I get the black bars on top and botton without color grading.

Any suggetions besides recording in Red at 2:1

Rodrigo,

could you post a .r3d snapshot from the original 8k WS file?

Actually RED MX WS is 2.40:1, while Resolve WS being 2.35:1 or 2.39:1. The simple way to get rid of black pixels if you want to go DCI is to scale it up a little bit in Resolve (do it when you set up your timeline for grade - like creating one node for scale and the copying it to all of your timeline).

Didn't make it to test Dragon or Weapon footage, usually it was up to post-production company.

I Think 8k WS is actually 2.37:1 8192/3456=2.37 in Resolve Studio, if you are going down to say 4k dci scope 2.39:1 (4096x1716) try a "custom" setting of 4096x1728 instead and see if that helps any. In the free version, which is limited to 4kuhd(3840x2160) for output, try a custom setting of 3840x1620 instead.

Rodrigo,

here is a epic dragon 6k WS 2.37:1 (6144x2592) .r3d sample file that I put in a dci 4k (4096x2160) project and a "custom" 4096x1728 project

Rodrigo,

I did a 4k DCI scope 2.39:1(4096x1716) project with the same epic dragon 6k WS 2.37:1 (6144x2592) .r3d sample file and I only got slight black lines on the left and right of the image. I still wasn't able to recreate those black bars in the left and right side of your image.

If you have the time, could you post a .r3d snapshot from your footage?

Rand, in Rodrigo's example there are two black bars, "A" and "B". Look:

To me, "A" looks the same compared to your example.

sabovic,

I never downloaded and paid attention to that, Thanks for pointing it out.

I think Rodrigo's 8k WS file and workflow will tell the whole story.
