Hi

In Red Cine X Pro, after experimenting with grades I would like to be able to reset all of the metadata of all clips back to how they were shot.

How do I do this ?

Many thanks

Stewart

Select
BIN selected clips in the looks presets window top right.
Make sure to select all your clips in the BIN bottom bin now just viewer bin.
Click on META
and apply.

enjoy

Stewart/BigLu, please elaborate more. Where do you click on META? aka the TAB, w/in one of the "gear" drop downs, or via a right click somewhere?
I have several dozen clips that were previously adjusted on a uncalibrated monitor that all need to be reset to default meta/look as shot.

Also, is there a way to turn off the way redcinex automatically saves changes. i.e. i experiment w/ a look, then close Redcine-x w/out saving anything - next time i open the same clip, it has all the changes still applied and i have to click several M or D reset buttons on one click to get it back.

I hope this is just user error on my part, but this makes me feel crazier then normal. :smash:
I wish RED would make another video that just shows how to reset all meta data to as shot as well as how to commit/save changes w/out this auto saving "feature"

Thank You

There is a Preferences General setting in Redcine-X Pro. Just deselect "Automatically Save RMD Files" box, and click OK.

Daniel, in the top right of RedCine-X there is a Look Preset window. One of the looks there, by default, is called Meta. It's there when you install RedCine-X. It's the only look that you, the user, did not create.

If you apply it to footage, it will set all of the metadata to what the Camera metadata settings were, despite any changes made in RCX by you or anyone else on your or any other computer.

Nick, you got me moving in the right direction. Thank You! For some reason, by default the "look preset" panel in my case doesn't load by default. I just had to right click anywhere in the right panel and check "look preset" and it showed up in the right panel at the top. select Meta then click apply and voila!

Thanks Eric for the preferences tip to prevent auto saves, now that i know how to reset to meta as shot, I may leave it on for now.

I much appreciate the help. Thank You.

Yeah, you can customize that side panel and add/remove tabs at will. The default installation will get probably over 90% of users through over 90% of what they'd even think of doing. You must have, at some point (possibly accidentally) removed your Look Preset panel. If you really want to explore RCX, you might want to right click and try out all of the options there; there are a few tools that aren't viewable in any tab by default, and they that help some power users and some special cases. I wouldn't stress if you come across a tool and think "When/How would I even use that..." though. I don't like everything about RedCine-X, but I love most of it; and it's nice to have seen how it's evolved over the 3+ years I've been touching Red footage, from RedCine, to RedCine-X, to RedCine-X Pro.

Hell, compare it to XFUtility from Canon at some point. I love some of the ways that Canon as a company has pushed the industry, but man, I want to slap every one of their software engineers, one by one.

Oh, side note: if you're resetting metadata for the purpose of moving on to grading, the recommended workflow for best possible quality is to set your color science to RedColor3 (though in some instances, RedColor2) and your gamma to RedLogFilm. There are some valid reasons to deviate from this, but the best grades out there, for any digital footage, start with a Log images, not a Linear. For real beginners, you might want to stick with RedGamma3, but long term, just keep that in mind.
