So happy those Dragons are now out in the wild and free! When one of you fortunate few have a chance, I'd love to see a:

Dragon sensor vs Epic MX sensor low light sensitivity and noise test.

This would really add a lot to this part of the forum and nothing has come out to show clearly how many stops of light we gain going Dragon.

Thanks for considering it, I know you guys are doing a lot. Happy Holidays!

Also, most importantly for me, is comparing dynamic range. Thanks Will.

I disagree with Les's thread being taken down, I respect the RED team for their decision, this is there house and while not a completely open shop, these doors are more open than closed.

I do feel we need lots of sources for this kind of information. The camera will prove itself in time and the truth will be available. Why not now? That's pretty damn BOLD if you ask me.

lee comments and tests in that thread here.

Take the time to read through that thread all the info you need is there.

Will. I would tend to agree, actually. If it was not for lee jumping in and commenting on sources for his comparison not being valid, if memory serves me.

He and anyone else have been and are free to comment in the other thread, with quite a few R3Ds available for download.
And he has commented.

I have actually suggested to close "my" thread as it seems to have run its course and gone into general exposure and workflow discussions, but I see from your comment that that might not be too smart... ;))

Your tests were more than helpful. I'd like to see three or four sources to have a larger sample size to compare results which could vary with camera builds, firmware releases and other factors. No reason to close your thread, it's doing exactly what it needs to do and thank you again for your time, effort and thoughts. This is working together, collaborative discussions, it's the value of RU.

Les didn't shoot his test. So to be fair, that does take the validity down because he did not control the shoot. You did. We have a good start and there's more to come.
I'd like to see Phil do his own test. I'd like to see one of the talented DPs in NYC have a round of tests as well. I'll post some results when I get a Dragon in a more real world setting, aimed at achieving results and accomplishing shoot goals/wish list. I'm thinking that's around February or March. I have a few friends on order for a CF Dragon, so I might get a chance to borrow theirs.

Mark and Timur have made some very indicative posts in that thread, to which I totally agree, BTW.

And I released an 8 stop Daylight ext thingy in my thread.

I agree.

There will come a lot more data.

I think I will not release a lot more directly comparative images with the Epic. More fun to see what the Dragon can do on its own.

I will probably shoot some other comparisons. Most curios how it fares compared to its major rivals. But I have a hunch how they will come out. Priced right, the Dragon should be a very good rental item.

And it is probably the best cam out there at the moment.

And a cam that you can live with for a long time. Stuff like the motionmount and the new mini SSDs will add a lot of "lifetime" to the Dragon, as far as I can see it, it starts at the top contender.

now that is pretty rad... ;)

And it is a serious stills cam at the same time. Not just that you "can" do very good stills with it, it is simply one of the best DSLRs out there at the same time.

Kinda amazing what RED did here.
